Title: leather handle wrap questions
Post by: sleek on October 23, 2020, 03:48:03 pm
When doing a leather wrap, I always put the fur side out, but anyones ever do the suede side out? Its soft and comfy, any down sides?

Suede is a common handle wrap. A problem is suede is absorbent and can get pretty yucky with sweaty hands. Adding a leather conditioner will matt the suede down eventually so it won't be "suedey" any more.

I've noticed this as well.  I made a bow hand guard out of buckskin a few months ago with the suede side in.  It was so soft at first, but it got matted down over time.  I have new bow with a handle suede side out and it looks great, but then I haven't used it much.

For what it’s worth, many of Howard hills personal bows were done with suede grips.
Enjoy

Makes no difference if it's a suede grip you're looking for.
Actual suede is just a split or degrained whole section.
