yep.........you have a Truckload of Fun there....now just wait till you have to split and debark....and remove all of the Sapwood and seal it....your fun has just begun!!!!!!!!!! ::)
-
Looks like 20-25 bow to me. More important is the months of fun contained in there. ;) Justin

It's best to wear long sleeve shirts when cutting wood. Nice haul

C/mon John.............it's Hedge....Horse Apple....Osage....Bois d Arc.......but You already knew that...you were just testing Us!!!!!
>:D

Never seen hedge so strait :o

Looks like some good logs in there. Lets see a pic when you get them split in staves. Thats when you find out what you have. Not sure I'd want to tackle that twisty one, I predict it'll be a bugger to split.
-
A Bugger......Thats putting it Nicely.............it's going to be a Biotch............Royally!!!!
-
That twisty one is interesting.
Imagine splitting it into quarters. Two wild sideways snake staves, two wild forwards backwards staves! Not too many snaky front to back bows made!
-
i will only try to get one from the snaky log and be happy if i do..lol
i may not even split it and just work it down with the draw knife?
-
That thing is going to split on it's own....if you don't split it yourelf....trust me....and then you have no control over how and where it does Split.....at least slit it in Half..........
-
with chain saw ??
-
you'll ruin it.....use a couple of wedges....and let it split with the Grain...not a saw!!!!
-
Nice wood there! If you just gotta get rid of some, I've got room (or I'll make it ;D).

Mark's idea of making a snakey bow that snakes back-to-belly sounds interesting, but more of a challenge than I'd personally want to tackle. Guess you'd classify that profiel as R/D/R/D/R/D/R?
I'd maybe kerf the log before splitting by taking a hatchet and mallet and making a 1" kerf along one side, just to guide the split. It might prevent the split from trying to run off one side or another.
I would go ahead and split everything, until you at least bust the logs in half they will drry very slowly and probaby check on the ends more too. You have a of of work ahead of you, possibly a little more blood loss too. But its a labor of love.
-
Kerfing it may work....but it all depends on how much twist it has too.....I would split it in halves....and just work it that way....wouldnt mess with Quarters.....
