I recently finished a shagbark hickory selfbow with a lot of remote help from my friend BowEd here on this site. The bow is 67” in length and draws 53# @ 29”. I stained the back with Feibings dark brown and black dye and sanded the high spots for a camouflage look. I finished the bow with six coats of Tru-oil and a final coat of spar-urethane. The string is Dacron B-50. I originally planned to make the bow center-shot following the grain around a knot in the handle but I chickened out and left a little more wood there for protection. Bow shoots really nice and will likely be with me when I hunt whitetails here in PA this fall. Thanks for looking.

Very nice hickory bow. Well done. :OK

Nice stout hickory stick Will....Like that camo look too. It'll do the job for you this fall.

Thank you Pat B and BowEd!

Niceun.
The sight window could be longer if you wanted at that weight and draw. Looks like it would benefit you to see thru it more with your anchor and nice erect form.
Very nice for hickory stick.

Doesn't get any better than that! Well done!

You did a great job on that one... and had a good helper in Ed... can't wait to see the deer you get with it this fall. :OK The camo back is a nice touch...

Thanks for the feedback and comments HH, Ryan and Bob! Much appreciated

Beautiful bow. I love the look of the back.

Nice looking bow. I like the profile. Following Ed's advice really paid off. You did an excellent job.

You did a very good job. That camo is nice.
Too bad, I see the pics very small, would like to see some details also - it's a fine bow!

Thanks for the feedback as comments. I’m still learning how to post pictures. Here’s one which should be a bit better.

Very nice. Good looking bow.

Well, if you can put up with his hospitality, generosity, wealth of knowledge, and his interesting character, he can walk you through a decent bow! You could have picked a worse mentor for the project.

Thanks for the comments fellas. JW you are right...Ed is an awesome mentor

Will, and I are good friends. He came over my place today, and shot the bow through a chrony with a heavy Dacron string, and wanted to increase the speed of the bow. I tied him a 10 strand D97 string , and the bow increased speed by 11 fps.He went home a happy man. I also gave him an Elm stave. He gave me some sinew, and not long ago a copper head snake skin, and an Osage split stave that was iffy. It is finished ,and I will post it soon.

That's nice bassman did that for you. It's good you guys are within driving distance of each other.I usually only get around 8 fps more or there-a-bouts with FF.That's determined by the amount of mass difference during the change.
To be sure about your bow though you did a fine job tillering & that was on your watch.Glad it came together nice for you.

It was a really thick Dacron string Bow Ed. If I go 10 strands of B55 ,and compare it to 10 strands of D97 I pick up more like 6 to 8 fps. I am now playing around with 8 strands of both materials on my low poundage self bows. Haven't done enough testing yet for results. I have helped him tiller bows, install risers, heat treat etc.,etc. He is also my source for shorter Osage staves with flaws that I have been able to get some decent bows from. He is also one hell of a turkey hunter.

Nice reflex Bassman and it held it. Well done. Arvin

Those are nice profiles! I like it!
I do my resizing for pics with preview on Mac . First crop the pic, then bring down the resolution to 72 dpi and resize the pic to HD or less.
