Are these “Faux Snakeskin Backings” they sell at vast expense at 3 Rivers and similar just a snakeskin pattern cloth or do they have scale patterns in them?
Anyone ever found a good fabric to make one’s own?
Ordered a sample of this stuff called Sopythana which looks pretty realistic as a sort of vinyl fake leather plastic - trouble is it has a felt type backing. Guess I could sand it off.

Ok ... so I made such a mess of one bow with the stain I gave this stuff a go... I think it came out pretty good actually... I took the felt lining off with my belt sander and thinned it a bit, glued it on and gave thin coat of epoxy... (all very Primitive I know!)

Looks pretty convincing. Does the bow shoot any different now?

Yeah - it’s way way faster, and way more deadly now. It strikes like a Viper ...probably gained 50 fps ... and my arrows are laser guided now! ;D ;D
No - I haven’t noticed any difference. If anything it would slow it down a tad but it’s very light once I thinned it. It certainly doesn’t add any more draw weight like sinew or linen might.

Best response ever.
Thanks for the laugh

I have used Faux cloth backings on some of my bows that works. I saw that stuff for sale ,but thought it would crack through time, but what do I know.

It’s quite rubbery. Will let u know how it holds up. It’s why I put a thin layer of epoxy over it
