I think I remember reading somewhere, possibly here (although my searches have come up empty) of a downloadable app to help with tillering. You snap a pic of the bent bow and the app superimposes a smooth arc or circle onto it so you can better see, on the screen, the spots where the limbs are bending too much or too little. Of course I didn't write it down and now can't remember where I saw it. Sound familiar to anyone? Thanks.

The app is called canva graphic design i found It during a 7 tillering hacks YouTube video
-
You can do that here and have experienced bowyers share their opinions and advise.
-
You can use Windows "Paint"
-
43# @ 21". Does the right limb look stiff?
-
You need to shorten that string quite a bit more to get an accurate view of the tiller. Right limb does look stiff but I don't trust the long string when its so much longer than the bow. Try and get it as close to the length between the nocks as possible without bracing it.
-
You can also hold a round object between your eyes and your bow
-
Brain cramp- not nearly a real 21" with that string! ::) Thanks for the reminder!
-
Also if you can, move your tillering tree to the left a bit so that real tree in the background is centred on the bow. It's messing with my eyes :D
-
Sorry DC but the tillering tree has to be on a fence post because I don't trust the hollow pickets. I'll see if I can shoot the next pic from a better angle. ;)
-
Since i think its a easy way to check the tiller i was searching for a better app and found the app logo maker
-
Here are 2 taken with the string Just slightly shorter than the bow. I reversed it to see both sides. One limb seems clearly stiffer right? Any specific hinges or flat spots noted?
-
On the second pic, right above the scale, there is a hinge starting. Put a bunch of X's there and don't scrape there until the rest of the bow catches up.
-
the one bending too much needs to bend more in the outers,,
the stiff one needs to overall bend more,, please take with grain of salt,,
if you use an app..its like projecting an image onto paper and tracing it,,,, your eye wont learn,,
just take the time to develope and eye for tiller,, yes its hard ,,
sometimes a stave has reflex and deflex in the limb,, so a straight arc,, is not stressing the wood evenly
just keep posting and asking you will get it,,
-
Yes I'd marked that beginning hinge already. Draw weight is way heavy now anyway so I'll bring the rest down. Appreciate all the input.
-
Progress- still working that stiffer limb but getting better. The help here is invaluable.
-
Don't pull it that far!
Sort out the limbs strength relative to each other.
You still have the same problems as mentioned above.
-
You need a tillering gizmo! Make one before it is too late, don't take any more wood off your left limb.

All the drawing packages and stuff only really help if you know what you are looking at... I've seen plenty of random ellipses draw on pictures to "show" the tiller is good. You need to get your eye accustomed to seeing the curve, an app etc is no substitute... IMO the best aid is probably video of it being flexed. The curve drawing rarely shows something I can't see already but is handy for showing it to someone else who probably couldn't draw the curves right themselves!

That simple gizmo makes a huge difference. I built one this morning and it's totally different tillering with or without it. Also drilled some holes in my tillering tree for a peg to hold at different draw lengths. HUGE help!
