I'm trying a different camera. The top picture was taken at 640x480 then cropped to 279x272 and just posted using the sites posting. The one on the bottom was taken at 2592x1944 cropped to the same(roughly) image and then resized to 279x264 and posted the same as the other. Other than a slight physical size difference I can't see any difference in colour or sharpness but look at the size difference. One is 60kb and the other is 19kb.

Which one s left and which one is right? For me there's top and bottom :D

when you resaved them as jpgs, were you offered a percentage quality or compression?

No, I was never even offered to save them as jpg's. I used the "Photos" program that came with Win 10. I actually just discovered that you can resize photos with it.

right
it's a compression difference
the bottom one is smaller but also suffered a reduction of both colors and definition

That's funny, I can't see any difference. It's a moot point now the camera died. I have been using an old Sony Cybershot 3X that I got in some kind of promotion twenty years or more ago. it gives me the shaky hands icon even when it's on a tripod so I thought I would try my wife's old Sony Cybershot 12X. I took those two pictures and it died. I'll go back to the old 3X.
