Title: Two woods

Just waiting for the glue to dry on two billets that I had lying around, one being Osage and the other being white oak..

Don't expect much obviously just kind of thought it'd be an interesting experiment..

Has anyone else tried to make a bow with different wood for each of the limbs? If so how did you go?

I know the wood will have different properties and potentially be really hard to tiller into so both limbs bend evenly, as I said though just a bit of an experiment.

Let us know your experiences doing this..or just any thoughts you may have :)

It’s been done. I’ve seen a few Osage/Yew limbed bows by some folks with a ton of experience. My understanding is that they work just fine. If I were making one with two different woods, I’d just adjust the width between the woods unless it is a wood like yew, ERC, or juniper, in which case those woods would end up with slightly thicker limbs.

Go by the tiller and not the thickness of each limb and you should be OK.

Starting to somewhat take shape. Lots of tillering  to go.

On a separate note.. how good is FibreFix for reinforcing a spliced handle.

You are running into some massive problems ...
- Before bending a stick you should carefully watch the side taper! Your stick is thicker in some outer portions than midlimb.
- Looks like you have a massive hinge in the right fade >>>edit: of course left fade!
- Looks like string alignment doesn't match

Haha yeah don't worry I'm aware of all these issues, my splice cutting has never been very good which has caused some issues.

But as I said I'm aware of all these problems and just wanted to get it up and bending a tiny bit to show how it's looking :)

I appreciate the advice though:)

Yes I did an Osage and BL , Will did an Osage and Yew and Davy also a yew and Osage, like Pat said just watch the tiller and not the limb thickness or size. They all shot fine. Good luck. :)

Yes I did an osage/yew once. The Osage limb was a short recurve and the yew was a longbow limb....it shot like a dog! Couldn't get the thing balanced because the limbs worked differently and weighed different amounts.

Well, not as much but right fade out has a hing, too.
