Since feathers are kind of scarce, im happy with all the road kills or Fox/ Hunter kills. This blues heron is a Nice find, i think Fishers killed It.

You may not be ok to have them . It is usually illegal to have feathers of protected species.

could the long and low profile commonly seen on Native American arrows been an adaptation for "weaker" feathers?

If i could only dephend ons Goose feathers then i gotta ductape the rest, i even use pigeon feathers at the moment. As for the long and low profile, i used the off side (smaller side) of a Goose primary and used Them almost full lengt, that Arrow flyed pretty good

By too weak, do you mean the "hairs" of the feathers? Because i cut the quil with my pruning shear but the quill was really tough

Those look just as weak as goose feathers and goose feathers is all I use. They work great.

Yes, I mean the 'hairs' - the quill is tough.
There is a big difference between goose and heron feathers!

Found some crow feathers once and made some fletching, I'll tell ya they flew like the dickens and made a singing snarly sort of sound thru the air. Flew straight though.
