Title: Has anyone tried fluting floor tile before?
Post by: Ryan Jacob on March 21, 2020, 08:52:24 am
I’m trying to practice with some new material, but floor tile is really giving me a headache. I can never clear the faces on floor tile even with my ishi stick and indirect percussion. If I can just flute it even a little bit, it’d atleast make the points look good.

Hmm, well it's just floor tile so no harm in trying?  My first thought is it wouldn't work all that great as it doesn't have an elliptical cross-section that peels out.  But, I've never tried...

I wonder why there isn't knappable rock coming out of China?  Not that that is right next door to you, but it seems like there should be the resource available?

Short flutes are possible on floor tile but be prepared to break quite a few pieces. I made a couple Daltons with floor tile that looked pretty decent.
