Title: My hunting bow
Post by: Bubbabowyer on February 07, 2020, 11:41:38 am
Here is my hunting bow. 57.5 inches ttt drawing 40 lbs at 27 inches. Handle just starts to work at full draw. Copperheads were harvested from my farm. Tips are 3/16 wide by 7/16 deep. After close to 2000 shots she had taken about 1 1/8 inches of set. No tillering tree or gizmo just bent it around my knee and scraped it with my knife. It could've been done much better but I wanted to do this in a way that required only my eyes and hands to feel this bow out so to speak. I hope you like it!

I have trouble with photos too. Yours are pretty blurry so its hard to see the artwork clearly on that bow. Also a full draw pic is pretty much essential. I love the look of copperhead skins. Good luck with the pics.

If pictures are on your phone you can email them to yourself.  When doing this your phone should ask what size you want the photos to be.  I have found this to be the simplest way to resize photos from my phone.  I have an iPhone so this may not work with other phones.

That looks like a really cool bow.  Not to criticize your photos, but I imagine higher image quality is needed to really appreciate the finish work.

I always like snake skins on a bow.  I need to find some.

Good looking bow and good job on making it with just your hands.

I agree--from what I can see that's a really pretty bow.  I'd love a full draw shot or two.  The minimalism is admirable too, trying to do it the way the ancestors did.  Hm, I wonder if stone-age Native Americans and medieval Europeans had tillering boards of some sort.  Wouldn't surprise me.

Some other shots. Thank you swamoman for helping out on the resizing issue.

Your bend looks pretty good.  Is the top limb longer than the bottom limb?

Nice bend!  I ain't real wild about snake skins, but to each her/his own, it does look good, too.  I think I will stick to rawhide or maybe sinew when I reach that point. :BB (SH) :NN (lol). What are the white dots?

Just paint. I used black and white acrylic to hide the transition from snakeskin to wood. In retrospect it probably didn't make for good camo! It doesn't get noticed as much as I do though. Maybe that's just poor hunting skills :-D

Thanks everybody. I'm glad you like it. It's not easy to build one by feel but an acceptable bow can be produced. Now I must come back to the present and utilize the equipment that has made bows become the works of perfection this site is so full of. (tillering trees and gizmos and blue printing limbs and such)
