Yeah, it is cool. It kind of bugs me that they wear the animal out (in winter no less) then let it go. Seems like it would be easier to lasso the thing and then just put a spear in it. I've read about all kinds of persistence hunting around the world. Pretty brutal stuff, but yeah, it is cool that people are tough enough and skilled enough to do this.

Easy prey for wolves now. I agree its fascinating that it's possible, but sad that it's done as a sport vs perhaps a culture event that produces meat.

I couldn't read the whole article, but my guess is that the Chinese government won't let them make the kill, so they do it just enough to keep the skills alive against the time when that changes and they're allowed to hunt again. That government seems to have a reputation for being rather arbitrary about that sort of thing.

Reckon it makes sense. Hard to really form an opinion on that, when I have the American mindset, and not theirs.
