Still on my trend of working on partially finished bows, this one was a gift from a member who has been here at PA for many years. Glenn had started this take-down by chasing a ring on the billets and fitting the brass sleeves to the billets. I guess he lost interest a couple years ago and asked me if I wanted it, naturally not being completely brain dead I said yes (A). I took it down a few months ago from where I had stored it and I've been looking at it ever since. Then a couple weeks ago I had another look at it and decided to finish it. The sleeve needed more work as the brass inserts were much too snug, too me awhile to get it apart. Also I found that the handle was too long for my tastes so I re-worked the inserts so that they sat deeper and cut off the extra wood sticking out. That part took me a few days to sort out properly. The limbs were quite thick so I got to work thinning them down :BB. I used dry heat to take some character out and reflex the outer limbs a bit. The end result.......
The bow is 65" long overall with limbs 1 3/4" wide at the fades tapering to 1/2" tips. It pulls 57# @ 28", I have pulled it to 29" a few times. The leather handle is brain tanned Deer hide.

Very nice Marc. I sure hope you still have a big pile of unfinished bows to work on. Always enjoy seeing them when your finished with them. Beautiful profiles.

That is a great looking 2-piece bow! Great work!

Very nice bow, Marc. I miss ole Glenn., It's been years since I heard from him.

I talk to Glenn fairly often and consider him a good friend. His mom died in a pretty horrible way a few years ago and left him with a hard decision to make.

I had heard she was ill but didn't know the details. Tell Glenn I said Hi when you talk to him again.

that is a design that I have always like for a hunting bow...if it was only about 10# lighter... It looks great and like it would be a pleasure to shoot.
-
Thanks guys.
It's a nice design and heavy, both physically and in draw weight, but it has smooth draw. Not quite fond of the take-down system though. Had to do a lot of work to it to get it to come apart relatively easily. It's not bad now but it was rough trying to take apart initially.

Nice bow.

Good one, gatta love those takedowns.
-
Not bad for a guy that doesn’t like takedowns!
-
Thanks guys
Never said I didn't like take-downs. I am not fond of this style
-
Wow! thats gourgous!
-
I love it Marc. I bet I could pic one of your bows out of long line up of FD pics. It'd be the one with most balanced tiller.
-
Now thats slick. I really enjoy that.

Thanks guys

I like T/D a lot. This one is very nice!!! Is there a center groove in one nock?? Looks like a little branch was there!?!...or is this a new nock style? The devils nock >:D
Cheers Martin!

Amazing! Perfect backcountry hunting bow. On my to do list

Looks good Marc. I would expect no less from you. The few takedowns I have made with those sleeves have without exception been a booger to get apart. It's usually due to vacuum. A small hole drilled through the outer sleeve right where the two sections meet in the interior goes a long way to alleviate the problem. The whole needs to be under where the wrap is laced together of course. Otherwise the wrap will keep the hole sealed off.

Very beautiful,..thanks for posting :)
-
Thanks again guys
Good advice Josh. I don't believe I'm going to make another one like this again
-
Sweet. I like that handle wrap a lot as well.
-
Lovely result from one of The Masters.
-
I thunk Josh B is right ,every one i made like that would pop like a kork coming out of a wine bottle when pulling them apart.
-
Thanks again
I don't get that vacuum sound when I take it apart but that doesn't mean it's not one of the reasons it is tough.
The lower tip was a void in the wood. I trimmed about 1" off the end which left the "horns" look, what I trimmed of was superfluous since I wouldn't have been able to use it for a nock
