The stave was a nice clean piece of osage.
Recurves are steamed in, deflex and sideway corrections are done with the heat gun. Overlays are a combo of black buffalo and mammoth, arrow pass is mammoth.
The handle is bulbous with stingray leather wrap. Cross section is lenticular, fades with ridge.
Very similar to bow No. 106 ( http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,65340.0.html ), a bit more draw weight and deflex reflex side profile. The deflex is made with dry heat.
A third one is in progress, same design but in the 70# range - coming soon.

1+ what everyone said, perfection. But one dumb question tho, didnt mammoths go extinct 10000 years ago??
-
Simson,
Looks like some of that really hard red streaked Osage...Looks perfectly balanced and like the Stingray grip...

That's really top notch Simson! Always know its gonna be good when I see a new post from you.
I do have 1 question if you dont mind....How far do you tiller before you steam in the recurves? I have a piece of Osage deflexed in the handle on my bench atm. Thanks.

I was lucky enough to get a piece of a mammoth tusk donated by a good friend. That thing is really hard stuff, seems tht the 10000years could not affect the density.

Mike
Mike, I do not tiller before steaming. I just bring the bow near to dimensions, about 10 - 12 mm (osage), round the edges a bit and steam.
