Title: A quick question on joints

So I'm familiar with how joints are supposed to work: you make them in the handle from parts of a too-short stave for a flatbow. What I'm wondering is, should the W be perpendicular or parallel to the back and belly? I feel like it would be the former, but I have no experience here. And for that matter, is it possible to splice wood on working portions of the limb without running the risk of it blowing up? Thanks.  (-P

You should be able to see the "W" or "Z" from the back or the belly. Don't know why for sure, I asked the same question. I've done a few tests and spices don't like to bend. Maybe if they have a continuous backing.

I only know about the most usual joints which are the V-Splices in Hornbowbuilding. You cut the so that the V is wisible on back and belly since that kind of tension is far better for the glue. Dont know if it applies to all bows tho

If the joint is visible from the side, the bow flexing back and forth prizes the teeth open and the joint unzips
