Title: From a broken bow

I broke 11 inches off the bottom of a recent bow I made. I let the heat get around the back of the bow, and I'm pretty sure that is what caused the break. Ended up with a 53" bow pulling 47# at 26". Made of osage, no more that 1 inch wide. I was even able to save the antler tip and reuse it. A picture before the break is posted, and you can see how I got carried away with the heat on the bottom.

Nice save! I really like this little bow.  How would you compare shooting the 2?

Cool save and great little bow. That much heat on the back is a disaster just waiting to happen but you made a good recovery.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Ben, the short bow is fun to shoot and puts a smile on my face, but I am sooo much more accurate with longer bows, and this one was no exception. You got that right Pat, I learned the hard way to be more careful, but I remember this bow required a lot of correction initially.

That is a really awesome job, beautiful tiller, low set from such a short bow. Nevertheless you really had to have abused or rushed the original stave to break a piece of osage. Despite the excellent result you should still administer to yourself several swift uppercuts to your chin:)  (just kiddin, that is a great save, all is forgiven from the osage gods).

I find that when people say they are so much accurate with a longer bow,, its usually cause thats what they shoot the most ,, or practice with the most,, :)
