Title: String, serving, nock combo
Post by: Slipper on March 22, 2019, 02:53:52 pm
Looking for a recommendation on a good fitting nock-to-string.
How many strands of ?? for string (type), with X size serving (mono or anything) fits Brand X nocks.
Seems I am always too tight or too loose.
I shoot 11/32 arrows from selfbow with plenty of B55 on hand.

Thank you.

I like my arrow nocks loose on the string so I'm not much help.

I would like to stay on the loose side but I’ve had a dry fire or two from nocks that have zero purchase on the string. I am now very mindful but would like a little insurance.

I make endless loop strings. 12 to !4 strands of B50 plus serving
works good for me. If the nocks are a little loose I wrap some
dental floss on the serving and heat it. It's a good temporary fix.

Don't like the nock to slip off the string (I want a semi tight fit)   I think it is personal preference, but dry fire is bad!  I don't think there is a great Deal of difference between endless loop and Flemish twist, but I don't have a lot of experience with the Flemish either.

If you are using plastic nocks you can slightly heat the nock and pinch it to fit tighter. If you are making self nocks just make them fit tighter.

As Pat B polnted out dunk your nocks in very hot watrer, makes them easy to adj,
if shootung 3 under you can put a second tied
on nock under arrow and keep a little side tension on a loose fitting nock.that to willl will stop finger pinch on arrow when drawn.

I was doing some chrono testing yesterday and one arrow had a very tight nock. I thought it might be affecting the speed so I loosened it up to a nice fit. I gained 1fps, if that. Now tight nocks may affect accuracy, I don't know much about that ;D ;D

I use 14 strand B-50 and whatever for center serving.
I agree with that "(I want a semi tight fit)"    "great Deal of difference between endless loop and Flemish twist"    myself and another archer were shooting one day and he switched strings from endless to Flemish,  the bow was silent compared to the noisy endless string.  It was a field test and proof is in the pudding as they say.    (SH)
