This is the bow that I mentioned in the "D/R tiller- the outer limbs". It's a branch that had about a foot of reflex, ideal for making an RD, I thought. It's 62"NTN and after cutting and splicing it had 3 " of reflex. It ended up with 1 3/4" reflex. It's 40#@28. It's not a screamer by any stretch shoots in the 167-169 range at 10GGP. That may be due to having so much sapwood on the bottom limb. You actually have to look at the belly to see any heartwood. It's a pretty thing though and I thought my splice was good enough to go naked. Tips are fumed Crabapple. A real nice grey. I have a Crabapple stave waiting in the winds. I think I'll fume the whole thing. The tiller could be a bit better but I haven't shot it much as my range is snowed in. Once I get a chance to shoot it some I'll rethink the tiller.

That is quite the photogenic splice. ;D I'd leave the tiller alone she looks great!
-
The splice is right! That's pretty impresive.
-
Very nice. You did do a good job on that splice
-
Good job on that one!
-
That sice is super cool! IMO it would be a shame to put leather over that! Good job Sir!
-
Great job DC. Very purty, and that splice is eye candy :OK
-
Sweet looking bow Don. I should get you to show me how to cut splices some time
-
Very nice yew bow, DC. Such a beautiful wood! :OK
-
Thanks a lot guys. I found a picture of what I started with. I left the bends natural, no heat was used at all. Maybe that's why it's a little slow :D. This one is really all about the wood. Yew is gorgeous wood.
Anytime Goat :D

wow thats beautiful,, very nice,, (SH)

DC I dig your bows, well done.
-
That turned out great Don. You knocked that handle out of the park! 169 fps for a selfbow would make me happy. 8)
-
Good work. Nice bow. 400 gr arrow at 168 fps average is good.
.Nothing wrong with those numbers.
-
great bow DC! I'm new to this so it surprised me that you can make a bow out of that small of a stick! How did you do it?
-
I made it just like any other bow. With a sapling or branch there is just less wood to remove. I'm not sure what you're unsure of :D
-
Yeah Don...beautiful work man. I wouldn't be the least bit dissatisfied with that. It may seem slow compared to what you had hoped for but it shoots smooth and you can hit the mark that's what counts.
-
Thanks. I can't hit the mark but it's not the bows fault ;)

Another beauty DC. That yew sure makes for an attractive looking bow.
