Title: First Yew ELB
Post by: Olschool on April 05, 2008, 11:18:58 am
I came up with a Yew Stave in trade for some Osage. Came out 71"NTN, 70lbs at 29", backed with rawhide for camo and to protect the back from dings while hunting, buffalo horn tip overlays

Excellent bow. Got to be great fun to shoot it. Bookmarked, too, for April Self Bow of the Month.  Thanks for the post.

I liked working with Yew, I took the stave to OJAM to make sure I didn't mess up a good stave :o
Got lots of advice, and help with the rawhide backing, I hadn't backed a bow before.

Nice looking bow.  Looks like a tough stave to get looking that smooth.

Hi Don, I used Minwax polyurethane simi-gloss. Thanks again for the help with the rawhide, I really like the way it looks against the sapwood.

You obviously got some good help, that is a sweet bow olschool! I'd trade a bundle of osage for a stave like that too! ;)

Looks Great !!!  Nice work.  I somehow missed the rawhide backing part, thought I was keeping up with the build progress, but there was a lot going on.  Good to see the finished product.  Good time at OJAM.   Donnie

Hi Donnie, Bob helped with the rawhide by my camper, after we got it wrapped in the ace bandage I was done until it dried (which wasn't going to happen in the drizzle on Sunday) so I spent the rest of the weekend around the knappers and knapped my first arrow head.
