Have any of you ever tried chinkapin for bows? Not chinkapin oak. I received a few of the nuts from a family member, and plan to plant them soon.

Chinkapin is in the chestnut family(Castanea pumila). I've never used it but if it is like chestnut it probably isn't good bow wood. If nothing else, plant the seeds for the wildlife. You might Google "planting chinkapin seeds" to see if there any special considerations relating to chinkapin seed germination.
But, you'll never know if it's bow wood unless you try it.

Yea, I understand it's related, and I am going to plant for that reason mainly. I've heard that chestnut is no good for bows. I'm assuming that chinkapin is the same. Thought I'd ask if anyone has found it different.

I don't think I've seen a chinkapin big enough to make a bow.
