Title: Bberc
Post by: sleek on October 28, 2018, 02:21:02 pm
So, total noob style question.  Boo backed erc, hows that combo work? Would it be fine for a short recurve? Is the cedar too soft for a boo back? Would a trapped back be better? Whats an ideal width?

With a boo backing the bow will be narrow anyway(1 3/8" mol). I think ERC is pretty good in compression even though it is soft, it is a juniper. I think boo/erc would be a good combo. I think I'd make a longer straight bow with kicked up tips but that's just me.

I don't think any combo works well on a short recurve except sinew. LOL

Don't know about Bamboo but Maple or White Ash are both excellent for backing ERC and no doubt Hickory as well, just make sure the ERC has no knots

sleek...I have tried it and ended up with frets.  I decided that Marc was right (again) and used a thin hickory backing with success.  With your gorilla draw length be sure it's long and wide.  Good luck...
