I've been taking my current project to work on in my lunch breaks and needed a tillering gizmo in a hurry with no materials to make one from, so, I made one up from whatever I had lying around. It worked out so well I just had to post it here. It's just a pen pushed through two slits in a rectangle of scrap card I had in my work bag! In an effort to avoid advertising I've inverted the image but if it contravenes site rules I'll take the post down.

I like it!
In Germany they went all out with a typically over engineered version of a gizmo, it sure is pretty but won't work a bit better than yours.

Probably made by Mercedes Benz. :D

I guess it will do in a pinch but I wouldn't trust that pencil to stay in exactly the same spot while I was using it or when it was bouncing around on my bench.

I think the two edges are hooked over each other, setting the protrusion.

I found I could pinch the pen against the card to stop it moving. It is only one to make do when nothing better is available but it did it's job remarkably well.

Here is another neat one a guy posted that he made on a 3D printer.

Hey you made do with what you had and thats cool.
i like the spin offs of ericks original.

Necessity is the mother of invention! :OK When in a pinch, do what ya gotta do.
