Well, my little boy will be 1 year old May 11, so I thought I better get started on a bow for him. I cut the stave winter before last and just used it to practice chasing a ring on since only about 3' of it was all that was clear enough to use for anything.
I never had any intentions of using it for a bow, till my wife ask when I was going to make Mason one.
This was the first osage I ever cut and it had been in the house for over a year, so I was sure it was dry.
I started out just going to make a simple straight limbed longbow, but I traded Buck1 some feathers for a little copperhead skin that was too short to use on a big bow so I figured i'd just put it on this one. One thing lead to another and before I knew it I had recurved it, added tip overlays and a leather grip.
Since he's only 11 months old and i'm not sure if he'll be right or left handed, I decided to make it with a double shelf.
It's 36" NTN
1" wide tapering down to 5/16" at the tips. The overlays are black walnut.
The draw weight is 10.5 lbs @ 12"
Who knows how long it will be before he can shoot it, but it will be ready when he is. ;D
I'll add a full draw shot as soon as I can get somebody to take the picture. Thanks for looking, Saw Filer

WOW really really nice bow on such a small scale
-
Amazing bow. I think a kids bow is harder to make than the regular size.
-
That is awesome. Justin
-
HOW CUTE!!!
Oh yes, I know, cute shouldn't be a term applied to a manly tool of hunting and warfare, but...
Obligatory "aaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwww!"s all around.
-
Well dany Shannon - that is one purty little bow!! Need to find ya a midge around there to take the full draw with ;D.
-
That is one fine lookin bow brother, and a nice deer there too ... that kid of yours will be hunting elk before you know it... when the time comes let me know i will bugle them in for him.. Hawk a/ho
-
Looks like BOM material to me. These are the kind of bows that stick in a kids memory for the rest of his life. As my Grandad used to say, "Ya dun good."
-
Beautiful little bow. Well done. If you give it to your son, he will be shooting it before you know it. ;) Pat
-
Dang Shannon, That came out sweet! You never cease to amase me. ;D
-
what a beauty. i like the picture with your hand holding the handle (without it, one could think it's a regular sized bow ;D )
-
Very cool,I know he will love that.Nice job. :)

Thanks everybody :) I am more proud of this one than any of my others and glad ya'll like it. I look forward to seeing him shoot it. At the rate he's going, it won't be long.
He started walking last weekend. It seems like only yesterday he was born.
Not this spring, but next spring i'm bringing him to the classic ;D

Nice bow Shannon :)

Wow, Shannon, that's an amazing little bow-couldn't get much better than that. They grow fast, it won't be long before he starts stealing your boots and Carrhart jackets and shooting your bows and losing your arrows.
-
That's really a beautiful bow Shannon. I'd bet little Mason already realizes that he has a great dad! ;)
-
If that were a full size bow that would be a BIIIIIIIG deer!
Beautiful work, Shannon. The tips are cuter than a bug's ear.
I'm bringing some knife steel to Pappy's for swappin .Bring yer trade goods!
-
That is a nice little bow. Those small bows are as hard to make as full size bows and in some ways even harder
-
Slickern' snot. Outstanding fit and finsh. You know we ain't gonna let you get by without a trophy shot. Get that youngun geared up and in focus. Double shelf?
-
Ditto everybody else!
Some of the best full draw pictures have been by the child. That one last year of the little girl is still one of my favorites. PA was supposed to do an article about childrens' bows but forgot about it I guess.
This fine bow is a great candidate for April Self Bow of the Month. A full draw pic would be appreciated.

It takes a lot of skill to build a bow like that. Congratulations!
-
Lovely! Nice bends and curves. I like it very much.

That bow is absolutly beautiful!!! What a lucky kid, I have to get making my son a bow (16 months old now). You did an amazing job with that. ;D
-
Beautiful bow! Well done. Jawg
-
That a dandy little one. :)
-
wow nicw bow sir. awesome skull too. big big deer.
-
Thanks so much guys. I hope one day this little bow brings my son as much enjoyment shooting it, as I've had making it.
As much as I would love to have him provide the full draw shot, he's just to little. I've added a shot @ 13" draw as well as one inside of my first osage bow. There's also one showing the double shelf for DCM.
Minuteman and Huntertrapper, I found that deer behind my house last Oct. He apparently died from Blue Tongue. We had the worst outbreak of that dreaded disease in 30 years. A lot of nice deer died from it. :( He scored 173" gross. Three years ago I got one a little bigger than him so I know it's not impossible to see another one that big roaming the neighborhood.

I'm not easily impressed, and I can honestly say that's one of the most finely crafted bows I have ever seen, on any scale. I would kill to have your skills. Outstanding job!

Way cool Shannon, love the full draw, now you need arrows, probably gonna need lots of em
as I forsee many arrows being launched once Mason is old enough :)
-
Young'uns usually launch an arrow one of two ways, straight into the ground in front of them, or over the fence. :D Please tell us you wont put suction cups on the ends though. ::)
