I have been wanting to start my first takedown for awhile now, then I received a takedown sleeve in this last supply trade. Thanks GUTSHOT. So now I have to get started, except all I have is some primo 72" yew staves, and a couple Osage and hickory staves, and no billets. I have debated whether to cut a yew stave in half, but that's not easy to do....why cut just a perfect stave in half when I have never found such a perfect tree like the one that these yew staves came from, but then, yew is in no short supply for me, as I cut them every year, but it's not an easy process to undergo with the driving and permits to deal with. Anyway, would you cut one in half? Wait, and cut a tree that has a good set of bullets in it? Some of life's decisions just aren't easy.

I'd find some billets.

Not forgetting that if you harvest some new timber then you'll have to wait for it to season. How much of a hurry are you in? Murphy's law suggests that as soon as you cut a lovely stave in half you'll find some really nice billets. Personally I wouldn't cut but then Yew is in short supply here.

Yeah, get the billets. Shame to cut a nice long stave.
-
No way in hell I would cut a nice stave to make a takedown, but I aint you.

+1.Find some billets.

Looks like everyone has the same opinion. I will see if I can find a a nice set and wait for them to season or trade for a set. Thanks
-
I wish I had some good osage billets I could send you, but all of mine are super wonky or have really thick rings...and I don't want to cut a good stave in half!!
-
I sent you a pm, I have a pair of yew billets and a pair of osage billets that I'd be willing to trade.

I will trade some billets for a pristine yew stave all day long, interested???? Sorry I had to post this. I do have some stuff you could maybe use.
-
I've got some Osage billets if the other offers don't work out.

Responded to your PM ajbruggink.
If the billets are pristine, if trade a primo yew stave for a couple pristine set of billets.

Dang, thanks for all the offers guys. I might end up with a set sooner than I was expecting.
