Title: String untwisting
Post by: DC on February 27, 2018, 02:51:19 pm
If I make a bow with pin nocks sometimes the string falls off and I loose the brace height adjustment. Is there a way to stop strings from unwinding when they are off the bow?

I make my strings to fit the nocks but lately I use an elastic to keep the string on the bottom limb.
If I have to remove the string I hang both loops from a nail. Jawge

I use only bees wax on my strings. It seems if you work enough of it into the string, and its not overly twisted, most of the twist stays put. That goes double for a string that is broke in nicely. They just seem to lay there loose and not untwist.

Would serving the ends just under the loops in addition to the center help?

You mean to help keep the string from falling off?

Goat/calf castration rings are great for keeping the string on a bow.  I have been putting them on all of mine.  The string never falls off.  Balsatech showed me that trick.

When I unbrace mine I slide the loops up the limb till they’re stuck. On my recurve I had a rubber boot that held my bottom loop in place and I’d slide the top one down the limb.
