Title: Osage handle width
Post by: cool_98_555 on February 03, 2018, 12:55:01 pm
Hey guys,

Im making another Osage bow with a shelf that is just cut in enough to hold the arrow up.  What is a good width for the handle section if I’m doing a slightly cut in shelf?  It won’t be a bulbous handle, just a rectangle that is rounded.  Currently the handle section is 1.5” thick and 1.25” wide.

Cool 98,
Sounds like you have enough handle material to safely cut in what you need...I only made one cut in shelf years ago on a Hickory bow for my father...This handle was made 1.5" T and .75" W  Osage is very strong, what design and weight are you shooting for...
