Well i finally finished her... not pretty by bowyer standards, but should kill pretty well anyway.. decided not to do the antler tips .. given my inexperience ... but she tillered ok and came in at fifty pounds at twenty four .fifty four inches long, and should shoot my indian arrows deep into a buffalo... thanks Slivershooter... for all the advise and your expertice on bowbuilding.. and thanks to the bowyers who's posts helped me along while building my first osage bow......please no poking fun at my bowyer skills... OK maybe a little ribbing won't hurt. ;).. Hawk a/ho

I was expecting to see something else from the description. I think you know you did an awesome job on this bow 1st or 50th is that just the stain job or is the back not one ring? Jesse
-
looks good to me however i'm still a newbie so i dont make fun of anyones skills
i do have a question, was that made from a stave or a board?
-
It was a stave .. as far as one ring I think I got it but not absolutely sure... I drew her to twenty six inches and she didn't break... Hawk a/ho

Awesome bow with an excellent tiller. Jawge
-
looking good, it has a real nice full draw shape. i expect to see lots of good stuff to come in the future- Ryan
-
Well Hawkbow it appears to be pretty good ,But really don't know if its good till I try it out so just go ahead and send it on up here .Then when I get done with it say in a year I will pass it on to the next person for a second analysis
It really looks good, nice job on your first like that wood color to

Mike, You have been holding out on us. Beautiful, simple and I'd bet effective. Excellent first bow!!! 8) Pat

I built it out of a stave, sure have a new found respect for you bowyers...I never knew how much work went into building one .... lots of tedious stuff... but fun... Hawk a/ho
-
As Marc St Louis used to say..."just because it's simple doesn't mean it's easy"!!! ;) Pat
-
I like it Mike, looks like a hunting bow should. Tiller appears to be excellent.
Now that you've made one you do know it won't be yer last 8)
Happy hunting :)
-
Good looking bow-looks like it should make meat. The back does look like it has a couple violations, but the proof is in the pudding-if it shoots, you did your part. Nice tiller on it, too.
-
Nice bow, reminds me of my first except mine is hickory
-
Mike,
The tiller on the bow looks real nice. Post or send me a close up picture of the back of the upper limb, though it is holding together now you might want to protect it with something.

You made a good job. Looks like a good bow.
-
A little rawhide or sinew on the back might be good idea, pretty sure it will blow out on you in the long run with out it. Nice tillering job though.
-
Thanks for the advise.. i will probably sinew back her.. just to be on the safe side....would probably cry if i broke it on the hunt... Hawk a/ho
-
Primitive but excellent. That is why this bow is a great candidate for March Self Bow of the Month. Nice pictures, too.
-
Mike....Unless you want to up the Poundage and you really think that the Back is in serious Danger of splitting....I would just back it with some Doe or Goat Rawhide....just something light ....but substantial enough to protect those violated growth rings....if thats what they are.....you never posted a Closeup....so I am just going by what others have said...and what I think I see.....Rawhide would be my first choice.....then you can paint on it too!!!! One more question....what do you have the Brace Height set at??? looks like quite a Bit......
-
Yankee, the brace height is palm to thumb tip , and you are right.. I shot about twenty arrows from her this am and she really stacks up at twenty six inches... so i don't want any more poundage.. I will post closeups of the limbs later when my wife can take pics for me ..I like the painted Rawhide idea.. thanks brother.... Hawk a/ho
-
Lets see the Pictures and untill then...I will put a little Painting Bug in Your Ear!!!! See how nice rawhide looks when painted on >:D

Yankee that painted bow looks sharp ever try painting on any snake skin
Dennis
-
Great job Mike! :). I was wondering what I was seeing on the back too, almost looks like the grain tapers out on the back. Very nice tillering job!!
-
Thanks......No...I have never painted a Snake Skin....I have painted rawhide to look like Snake Skin though....kinda cheesy outcome :P
-
That bow looks Awesome!!
But I have a question: How in the heck has the bow not blown up with so many ring violations? I'm so jealous! :)
Tiller looks superb as well!
Great Job! Joe

Great first bow. :)

::)sorry hawkbow
-
Thanks Brothers... I am looking forward to the next one now.... Hawk a/ho

Mike,
Looks great. I really like it and it looks like you stuck the tiller. Being that short it should make an excellent brush bow for sure. How about linen for a backing? That should'nt up the poundage none should it? Keep em cranking my man you got the goods on this one. Danny
