Title: wide limbed osage 3curve part 1 42#/28″ (No. 95)
Post by: simson on December 16, 2017, 10:45:29 am
This bow is made from an exceptional fat and thin ringed osage. The early wood is here not crispy than usual, but as hard and fat like the late wood. It was a fun to work with that wood, my scraper went through like on butter without creating any humps and bumps on the wood. What I will say is, this stick has a continous homogene structure.

No problems on this stave, only some heat corrections brought the thing in balance and the string aligned.

I tried to let the outers a bit stiffer for long draw without stack.

The color looks already like old darkened osage, but it is fresh worked.

Tips are black buffolo, filed in facets.

Grip is brain tanned buck leather and muscrat fur (requested by the new owner)

Another beautiful bow Simson. I really like how you incorporated the muskrat fur. I might use that myself. I was also wondering length. Looks like a sweet bend 👍👍

Very nice work.  That looks like some well aged osage.  Do you know how old the stave was?

Gotta love a nice simple bow and you've dressed this one up nicely.
Is that Japanese Arrow Bamboo with the frosty leaves?

DC and brjogg: length is like on the other one 55"

Very nice work.  That looks like some well aged osage.  Do you know how old the stave was?

Clint, it is harvested in 12/2013, split and brought down to stave dimensions (without sap), and seasoned in my garage (dark place)

Gotta love a nice simple bow and you've dressed this one up nicely.

Yep Pat, good eyes! This is pseudosas japonica.
Last winter was even more frosty than this one and brought my bamboo down. Now it recovers and I will wait a year before I harvest again.

Thanks all!
