What s the name of the new photo hosting site and how difficult is it ti upload and use?
-
I've been using imgur.com and it's really easy.
-
Same as Looper
-
I think it could be far better if member learn how to resize pictures and upload here
every time a member photo hosting account is deleted picture are gone
having post mutilated of pictures is a great loss

But PA has limited photo hosting space. Every time you upload a picture it deletes one from older posts.

+1
I've been satisfied with Imgur and, in my experience, is more responsive than PB ever was.
-
I think using an outside image hosting site is the better option. Sure, there is a risk of losing the images if the hosting site chooses to do something like photobucket did. But if you upload directly to PA it causes older pictures to be deleted due to lack of storage space. Then you get posts that have this message instead of the picture that was attached.....[attachment deleted by admin]. I would rather take the risk of losing my pictures instead of knowing that I'm deleting someone else's every time I upload a picture.

that's horrible.
Post without pictures are lost knowledge
I dont know the exact specs of this forum but it looks like a pretty standard php+mysql
there are many hosting nowadays with huuuge storage (also for very cheap)
moving the site could be a nuisance but it is feasible.

Thanks guys. I have an account set up on Imgur. I wish I could retrieve all my 106 pages of pics I lost with Photobucket. That was a lot of years of bow building, arrows, leather work, etc. with lots of memories of past Tenn. Classics.
I think I'll try a test run...

Now, how do I post a pic directly and not just a link?
-
There is an img code similar to PB. When I upload a picture there are several options on the right side of the screen. One of them is sized for message boards. Once you figure it out you will like it a lot better than PB
-
Thanks Clint. I'll give it a try.
-
I also have a question about Imgur: if I go to "embed" and copy the link in my pa- post, than I go to "preview" this post, I only can see the link, not the pic, is tis correct
Hans

So, if you type a message, and use the attatchments and other options link below, thats bad? It causes other pics to deleate?
-
Hans that is how it works for me
-
thank you bubby, I`l give it a try

I only upload pics to the PA server that don't matter too much when they get deleted a few years down the road.
P.S. I believe PA has it's own server and consequently limited space. Several years ago the forum was a slow as mud in winter and PA upgraded, I sure wouldn't want to have the same problems again that we had back then.

one solution could be to buy a very cheap hosting service with unlimited space and use it as image storage
there could be a simple frontend to upload, maybe resize the images and obtain the code to insert the image in the forum
integration with PA forum authentication should be doable
it could involve some work and maybe pics will come slower but it will keep all the images safe

that idea seems the best
as for third party hosts.............there is no free lunch
from what I understand, the forum is hosted with a service already. not sure if it is dedicated

Thanks for your help Clint and everyone else.

That really sucks what happened Pat.I just signed up with imgur.com.Don't know if the pics from my camera need to be resized or not but I'll give it a try too.
<a href="https://imgur.com/SgMnU8z"><img src="https://i.imgur.com/SgMnU8z.jpg" title="source: imgur.com" /></a>

OK that's one try.I'll go to image code this time.

-
No dice.I'll go to direct link.

-
Ok maybe I gotta right click it to transfer.Nope!OK I give up what am I doing wrong?
-
Ed, try this:
go with the mouse directly over the pic you will post, than comes up a link and an little hook, go with the mouse at this hook than comes up a pic with
"edit image", "get share links" and two others, than click at "get share links" 4 possibilities come up, click on the "BBC Code (Forums) on "copy"
that is how it works for me
Hans
-
OK Hans.I did'nt try those BBc code links.I did'nt read they were for forums too. Thanks! One more time!

Yep....Eazy peezy like they said.
OK now it's just a matter of transfering all my pics from photobucket to imgur.....lol.
-
Let me know how the transfer goes Ed.
I'll take half of that fire wood off your hands. I've got about 4 1/2 cords cut, split and stacked but could use a few more. :OK
-

From the drop down menu click on shared links and copy the BBCode, that's the one you want
-
Yea Pat there's close to 500 pictures to transfer in photo bucket.Might take a while...lol.That picture of stacked wood is one of my anal ways of drying it.It works good and will stand on it's own.A bit over kill but it works. That's 6 cords there altogether.I burn only 3 cords a year and am always 1 year ahead.I try to stay away from as much kreasote build up burning good dry wood as I can.You should'nt need to burn too much down south there yourself.
Yea Marc I think I got her figured out.
-
At 2600' we can get cold. I burn between 4 and 6 cords depending on the winter. It is out primary heat. I always try to have plenty of seasoned wood but it's getting harder each year.
-
I see.Sounds like a very nice place to live in the mountains. It'd be hard for me to leave there. The size of the house to heat etc. means a bunch too of course. The last 2 winters here have been rather mild compared to the average.I'm usually always burning dead snags or dead falls of hickory here. They keep replanting themselves, but yes the dead snags are getting fewer and farther between here too.
Actually here in Amish country burning wood is done quite a lot.The size of the large family houses they heat is quite large.Back where I used to live in NW Iowa where it's colder and windier the norm was to burn 7 to 8 cords a year, but did'nt burn quite the quality of hardwood as I do now and this house is better insulated also.
Anyway the imgur photo service seems to work slick enough.Still ercks the piss out of me what that photobucket did.
