				great work!
I never tried stone carving
what tools do you use?

				Thanks pappy, upstate, dancer.
BJ, I did another  one before (profile)
Glis, I rough out with a diamond disc grinder. Then it's mostly
chisels, files abrasive stones and an exacto knife.

Good job! Please be carful with soap stone, green marbles or any granite. Toxic stuff. Limestone is much friendlier and is my first choice. Stone carving is what I do for a living. John

Great resemblance there Zuma, JFK honoured for sure. Face on must of been tricky..the side profile carving looks to be challenge enough.  8)

Well bubby, that was a long time ago in a galaxy far far  away. I think it was when I toured with the Greatful Dead. Little did I know my nickname would follow me professionally.  John

Man I like this stuff! ,,,,,hey what does rough soap stone look like? And where does it come from? Thanks JeffW

The soap stone I am familiar with comes out of Vermont. It has great insulating properties and has been used on wood burning stoves and fireplace surrounds for years. John

Thanks for taking he time to post all the encouraging replies.
I really should start wearing a mask. I hook up my hose and spray a fine mist
to dampen the dust when I am grinding. That helps a lot.
I will post some pics of raw soapstone soon. What I get is left over broken
milled material from a Quarry in Nelson Co. VA. Actually , Walton Mt from the TV show.
Those folks actually ran the quarry and not a saw mill.
I cleaned John up a little. Oh I did a few pipes too. New thread
