I would like to see the fruits of your labor. :)
And the creatures that want to take it away from you. ???

All I grew this year was a corn patch. 20X30, peaches and cream, heavily mulched with newspaper then covered with grass clippings, I got 25 dozen ears off the patch.

Where I live the coons with devastate a corn patch in one night, I put out a couple of low strands of electric fence as a coon deterrent, they won't cross it.

Blanched, vacuum sealed and frozen, mighty good!

I know someone is gonna ask about the upscale "placemat" plate is sitting on. It's a target that was used in a lil shooting contest Bubby and I had going earlier this year. I keep it as a reminder that Mr Bub shoots much better that he lets on. (SH)

That's no garden ... it's a truck patch!

Here's our sugar snap peas this year. We have six raised beds, surrounded with rabbit fence. The neighborhood dogs do a good job keeping the raccoons, possums and skunks away. And no deer in the area to worry about either.

You guys are making me hungry. My poor garden has been under water for weeks at a time twice now. Can't believe anything is still alive. Nothing worth taking a picture of though. On a brighter note all the trees I planted this year are looking real good. We've just been to wet.

Forgot about the walnut, pecan, and hickory nut trees too. Some good reasons why I chose to retire here.Every year a little more and bigger things get it seems.
Everybodys garden looks nice.I was at a friends house for the 4th of July and his garden put mine to shame.1 of his tamatoe plants was about equal to all 12 of mine. His squash plants were gigantic.I'm sure he watered the crap out of his garden though.A lot more then me.

So glad to share with you all. Your photos really show us your love of life and land.
A truly amazing get er done family, I am so happy to be a part off.

Gardening is activity Carol and I share interest in. So we keep working at it a bit each year. The pictures you fellas have posted are incentive for us to keep at it.

Pulled everything up in my garden. It's too hot to grow anything and I've already picked the blueberries, peaches, collards swiss chard, tomatoes, chiles, green beans and zuchinni. Also yanked the Chaote up, have enough to last me till next year. And it got too hot for my oyster mushrooms, too. I'll wait a few months then replant tomatoes, collards, green beans and corn. Just picked a bunch of black berrys and Conquistidor wine grapes and waiting for the Muscadine grapes that I'll pick in September. picking pineapples daily and the lemon and papaya trees are loaded.
-
Mike....What a nice raised garden.Goes to show what enough care & moisture will do.You got your composter there I see too.Robin here is into orchids.African violets, and voodoo lillies too.Close to 300 of then I'd say.
-
After I took out my corn patch I decided to plant a couple of rows of okra so I could pickle some later in the year. I had a real nice stand yesterday but a rabbit or a deer made a pass through the garden last night and got most of my small okra plants. So much for pickled okra.
-
Mike....You got your composter there I see ...
The kids got me the rotating composter last year for me birthday. Carol has been wanting one for years. Actually, I have continued my compost pile which is out of camera range.
I prefer the pile because stuff turns to black gold faster. Though it does require more work.
Eric, what a SHAME!

You guys are making me jealous. I don't have enough sun to do a vegetable garden. Thought about clearing out some trees in one spot that's got potential. )W(
-
Well I've been as busy as a one arm flintknapper. :KN But doing other things.
I can't help myself. I keep going back over the thread not so much to see the
vegies and fruits, but the amazing artistry and color you all have shared here.
Upstate you will find a way.
Perhaps the roof >:D like they do downstate. ;)

Didn't bother planting a garden this year, just too wet and cold up her this year and we're only now starting to get consistent temps above 70 with Sun. I was going to try planting something in July but changed my mind

Checked the corn last night and it was ready for first picking. Went out this morning and coons took their share. Missed it by 12 hrs... :-[
-
I feel your pain Scott, this happend to my corn patch a couple of years ago, I trapped 9 coons but decided to use an electric fence in the future, no more coon damage.

I only have 6 plants out myself. 4 Hungarian wax peppers and 2 chocolate Moruga scorpions. I had many more started but I killed ended up killing them early on. Otherwise I would have a few Peter peppers too. But they're starting to produce with nothing quite harvestable yet. It's looking like I'll have a good harvest of wax and scorpion peppers this year. The plants are loaded with dozens of little fruits like this one.

A few strange things this year. Only one pair of potato bugs early. No frost last winter? :)
Volunteer kale, I think, killed my tater plants while I was away for two weeks. :'(
Tomatoes without something unexpected look real good. ;D Lopes are great. :D :D I must deter skunk somehow. :-M :-M
A couple bunnies and a few deer tracks. ??? A few clipped blossoms etc. I think I will try a radio AM talk show at night
iF I get attacked. If nothing else the fauna will be fat and know all about the POTUS. >:D

My garden is over still have a few hot peppers ,ginger ,okra, turmeric and some Seminole pumpkins growing. Picking figs and lots of mangoes

Done as a true artist Rog. Did you say lots of Mangos!
Your killin me

The woods are my garden as well, I walk a 3 mile trail through them 3 times a week. I have been eating blackberries, watching the green muscadines develop and keeping tabs on a pretty good paw-paw crop down by the river.
Most of the walkers are city folk that will walk over a bounty of muscadines and paw-paws on the ground and not have a clue what they are.
-
I planted two pawpaws years ago. Now they are copses of pawpaw that bloom every spring but I've never seen fruit. I've heard that blow flies are their pollinators but I can't make myself go out looking for road kill to assist...plus my new dog would love it if I put roadkill under them.

I hate to think off it at my age Pat but it could be sex.
I am pretty sure there are male/female trees. Your trees maybe
just one gender :NN :NN

So we are not surviving the ground squirrels to well. They come out when I am at work.....
-
Yep Ben the critters know our schedules. These monsters cropped up while I was distracted with life lol
Zuma
Oh hope no one else gets a crop of em. ???
-
Ughhh they're big!!
try to skin one to back a bow :o
-
It's easier to squeeze out all the green juice ??? and use them for sure grip finger pads. :o
Yuck, >:D Zuma

My Dad used to pay 10 cents per for all the "Mater Worms" I could find. Loved to squish them under My Chuck Taylors  ! Bob
-
Coons got the sweet corn while I was at Mojam. >:(
Japanese beetles are shredding the fruit trees and bushes. >:(
Me and "nature" need to have a talk... >:D
-
chamook If you were pickin those worms in my garden you'd be up to about $2
You could buy a lot of candy and soda with that change.
That's a shame Paul.
Just for a change --

Looks like a Sallowtail to me.....

I would ... but the ground squirrels et most of it. They only come out when I am at work and wont go in the traps.... I really hesitate to use poison but....

Well if it is any consolation-- The deer are biting my tomatoes.
NO POISON please. Chewing gum works for Ground hogs here???
Good luck.

I here you guys. My Muscadines are starting to get ripe and something is eating them at night, (suspect a opossum). It's raining too much to put out rat poison and I know the grapes will be in full, ripening mode next week while I'm in Idaho.

A radio on am talk all night will bore the pests away.
Any luck with the lithics Eddie? Oh, I hope you stay for Elk

Peach tree had a good year and we came up with a small bushel. Sat down and got them all cut up and ready to turn into jam and pie filling.
