Title: A little early spring fishing
Post by: Danzn Bar on April 09, 2017, 05:39:36 pm
Had a great time fishing this weekend with my best friend and fishing buddy ....my wife........caught a lot of bass 12-14 "long and a few 7" bluegill......crappie were slow but we managed to catch enough 11 inchers to eat. Water temperature is a cold 60 deg.  once it gets to 65 to 70 the fish will really turn on........

Some of my fav fishin' memories were with father-in-law using fly rods and poppers for bluegill and bass on little lakes in northern IN.
Glad ya had opp to get out with "the best buddy"!

Love them bluegill fillets.I eat lots too throughout the year.Their biting here some now too but the water is'nt 60 degrees quite yet.It will be soon though. The poor little bluegill feeds everybody it seems. The bass love them too. It's good to keep their numbers down in pond management I've found to get good sized ones to eat.

I agree Ed. If you don't have something eating them they overpopulate and all you get is real tiny ones. Our water is long way fro 60 yet. We just had a bunch of ice rain and snow. I still don't have electricity. Nice day today suppose to get thunderstorm tomorrow. Should bring the suckers up, that's always fun.

You know I've taken my girl friend out to eat at these fish frys at resteraunts around this big lake called Lake Rathbun here [btw a good crappie lake] and the breaded stuff they serve you there[think it's cod or something] some too thin and hard and some too thick and mushy just cannot compare to the little bluegill fillet when all I need to do is flour them/fry them quick in canola oil/salt and pepper & buttered home made bread. No contest!!!!

I agree Ed...bluegill is my all time favorite hands down.  I like using a little homemade cocktail sauce with my fried gills.

Love those bluegills. The only fish I like to eat as much is walleye. That's awesome that your best fishing buddy is the Mrs. It takes a lot of convincing to get my wife to come out with me.  ::)
