Title: Just missed
Post by: huntertrapper on March 12, 2008, 09:22:17 pm
i am really excited. we have flocks of starlings or blackbirds that zip around here. i have been tryin to shoot them with my longbow and flinttipped arrow. never got a shot yet till today. one sat on the telephone wire 30 feet up. i stalked close to him and got ready he was a good 30 feet up and i was 20 yards away from the wire., i aimed and that arrow zipped past him and i swear to god missed by a inch or two. i am so excited it was my first truly primitive hunt. a good shot at that a starling the size of 2 fist froma good distance away. i am gonna try again the rest of this week for one.  i am shooped up now.  w'owiyuskin (joy) ;D ;D ;D

im tellin ya when i saw that arrow miss that starling by only a few inches i was awe struck it was a dang good shot, i dont mean to sound like a braggart but it was my first primitive loosed arrow at my quarry. im probably gonna be huntin crows up north this weekend so maybe ill get a crow. that would be awesome.

Set up a hide spot over fresh road kill.  That draws in the crows like mad.   ;D

They are extremely wary birds and once your cover is blown, they let the world know.  Worthwhile quarry.

good luck.. My buddy once bet me he could hit this dove with his compound that was out about 30 yds. He whacked it, i had to eat the heart and what was left of the breast.
raw.
This was back before bird flu and salmonella ruled our lives
Wasn't all that bad, especially the heart.

That sounds like a good shot HT :). It's good practice, my quarry with judo's is English sparrows - I'd swear I've nicked a couple of em. Did score on a rabbit the other day...

the head wasnt sharp and it was a small bird point. Dana, feathers for quiver and maybe feet too, and i will probably try the meat.
