Hey all, here's a winged elm pyramid I just shot in. The stave had been roughed out for a year or more and I just finished it up.
It's 66" ntn, 68 over all, 2" wide at the fades, fades 2" long, handle 5" long, leather grip, 4". tips a little under 1/2" wide. Limbs 9/16" thick from fade to tip.
Pulls 45# @ 28". 1/2" of reflex at rest. Tips right in line with handle when first unstrung.
Full draw photo is not true representation. Bottom limb does not bend more than top, in fact it's a tiny bit stiffer than the top.

As I implied above, this full draw image is not accurate. The limbs are actually the same length and bend about equally, with the lower limb just a hair stiffer.
EDIT: (See later post. Image is accurate after all!)

Nice looking elm stick congrats !

Cool bow! My next one is going to be a similar design from a maple board. Nice!

Nice job! vanilla?

Nice job! vanilla?
Well, it's a pretty plain bow and the belly is sort of the color of vanilla ice cream...

Am fond of vanilla . . . in both ice cream and bow forms!

Nice bow Jim. Full draw looks good to me. ;)

Nice looking elm bow. It will definitely do the job as well as a prettied up one.

Nice work. I like the color

Well, I completely fooled myself. As I said, that bow had been lying around roughed out for more than a year. I guess I didn't remember much about it. I couldn't believe how odd that full-draw image looked, so I went back to the shop and measured things. The lower limb IS about 1-1/2 inches shorter than the upper!!
Some folks make them that way on purpose. I never have.
The bow shoots well, but it is a little shocky in the hand. Don't know whether to just leave well enough alone, or shorten the top limb. Procrastination is my friend in this case.

Nothing wrong with a vanilla pyramid!
I wouldn't say the uneven limb length is anything to do with the 'shockyness'. It will be the timing of the limbs not length relative one to the other. My guess from looking at it is that the lower needs to be a little stiffer to eliminate the shock.

slick lookin bow, i like it

Good looking bow Jim. Glad you decided to finished it up.(I can relate to setting a bow aside for awhile and later forgetting the particular nuances of the wood when I resume).

Pyramid bows look cool!! you have done well, nice work

IF I remember correctly, the log was 6 or 7 inches in diameter. I haven't cut an elm bigger than that. I do remember, that I ripped the staves out with my chain saw. And yes, that is the back right under the cambium. It was cut while dormant.
Thanks to all for the very merciful comments. I'm not ashamed of the workmanship, but I'm still embarrassed about not noticing a 1-1/2 inch difference in the limbs.
Shot it some more today and can't find any fault in it. Still no string follow. Guess I like too. :)
