Talking with my dad about a anvil at a auction he was going too. Told him if it was a good one try to buy it. I told him no more the a $100. to my surprise he told me I could have my granddads anvil and he told me where it was. Never did know about it until now. My granddad passed in 1969 and dad said he remembered the anvil when he was a young kid so no telling how old it really is. Also got this big vise from a fire and it too is very old. Soaked it in used diesel oil and got it freed up. I soon hope to add a forge and start trying my hand at knife making and a few other things.

Landed this old Champion Forge Blower today from a guy at work. Needs a little clean up but does work.

You got the big expensive stuff, out of the way.All down hill from here.
-
Nice, that vise looks huge!
-
That anvil looks to be in great shape besides a little surface rust. And that vise is built like a tank. Those tools will last long enough to be passed down to your grand kids some day.
-
I remember my Industrial Arts teacher telling a joke about a guy that was in court for stealing a bunch of anvils. The judge asked him why on earth would he steal anvils. He said," I did it in a moment of weakness your Honour."
We didn't think it was that funny either ;)

Good tools there Paul. See if you can find a makers Mark on that anvil when you clean it up and let us know. I use one at my in-laws that belonged to one of my father in-laws uncle's. It's very old also. Every blacksmith my wife has had out has tried to buy it off of him. They can be quite expensive. Probably more so than the vices. Joe.

Anvils are cool! Not suggesting you do this but has anyone been to the events where they put powder under them and blow them up in the air...sky high? Anyways I'd be in inclined to blacksmith on that beauty, great find and it's already in the family, perfect.
-
both of those are nice lookin pieces! I would really like an anvil!
-
That anvil is in good shape and thats a nice vice, a forge is the easy part gut you are about ready to forge
-
Very nice, I love the old stuff, so much better than the stuff you can buy today, and being you grandfathers makes even more special. ;)

That's great to have tools with a family connection.
Del :)

Those are some very nice tools Paul. Something very special about having tools used by our fathers and grandfather's passed down through the generations.
-
Clint the vise probably weights as much as the anvil, and built like a tank.
Balsatech I've uncovered some of the maker mark on it. I will post it as soon as I get the rest of it uncovered.
Mulchmaker I love to watch the anvil shots on you tube. But I will never shoot this one.

I bet we could get that thing 50' in the air at Moontree

I bet we could, but my luck Dave wood have a new skylight in his house!!!
-
An anvil of that size would probably need 2#s of 3f to go up 50'. And a long fuse😀😀!
-
Nice.. Gramp's anvil and vice will serve you well.. It'll clean up nicely
Thanks Leroy
PS.. A cheap chinese anvil will launch better
-
I want be launching this anvil.
-
Anvils always look like they are not really doing any work, but they will wear out many hammers and even more smiths in their lifetime!
-
Has anyone ever seen a worn out anvil?
Oh, did a search
