Here is an osage longbow I just finished. It was a little challenging to get it to 31” draw with a target draw weight of 60-65# in a 68” nock to nock length. Eventually it came all the way back to 31” after a lot of careful scraping. It ended up with a little bit of string follow. Draws smooth and hits the mark. This is the first adult bow that I have put snake skins on. These are some western diamondback I brought back from west Texas. Finished in shellac, linseed oil and tung oil.

Outstanding as usual, Carson.
-
Carson, that is real, nice.

Hi my friend, just checking the site before breakfast, seen your bow and had to stop drinking my coffee ...
everything is just plain superb, the lines of the bow (esp. for hat long draw), the leather job and I noticed the ridges - elegant, very elegant.
And your photography is excellent, a pleasure to look at.
-
Nice ! Bob
-
Gorgeous... that's gotta pack a punch.

Great looking bow.
-
Beautiful love that bow got to be a rocket at that stretch !
-
Good job and pictures on that stick Carson.Like the full draw.A very hard hitter for sure at that draw length.
-
Nice bow Carson heck of a bend out of that piece of Osage to get that draw and weight. The skins and pictures look great. I'm thinking that you should have a happy customer.

Another BOW winner there. Very nice with clean lines.

Outstanding, long draws are always challenging.

Nice work!
Simple elegance,,,classic
-
Nice work !
-
That's just straight classy. Your osage bows always have that sort of aged look to them. I dig it.
-
Another beautiful weapon sir!
-
looks perfect in every way!stellar as always with a picture perfect full draw!wicked!
-
very nice Hans
-
congrats,, thanks for sharing :)

Thank you guys. I think that is the longest draw I have tillered a bow to. Definitely a challenge. It was a lower density piece of osage from Clint. I think the lighter mass worked well for the 68" length. It is hard to see in the photos under the snake skin but the back of the bow had some hollows, especially near the fades. it made thickness tapering the limbs challenging.
Thanks Simon. I am glad you noticed the ridged fades. I have picked this style up from two of my favorite bowyers, you and James Rempp. It sure makes it easier to fade the handle into the limbs without getting the latewood/earlywood "steps" that you can get otherwise with osage.
-
Great work Carson, I like it
-
Great looking bow! Excellent work!
-
Nice job on that bow...!! neat work and good tiller
-
She's already got that shot in look. The wood has a weathered look to it that is gorgeous. How do you do the stitching on your handles?! That's a while lot of stitches!
-
The full draw on that bow is a thing of beauty
-
That's a dandy. Do you use ff string? I am too chicken to not use overlays with ff, just curious.
-
Very clean and crisp lines on that one....love it.

Thanks guys. James Rocco, I use a steel wool/vinegar "stain" to give it the aged look. It definitely helps pop the grain. It is easy to get the effect, you just apply the vinegar mixture with a paper towel or old rag to your bow sanded and ready to finish, and wipe off excess. Basically just wetting the wood. Let dry then apply your finish. However the effect is pretty superficial and it is easy to get blotchy areas where fresh bright wood shows through if you have to sand out any runs in finish, etc. I am looking forward to trying the Ammonia fuming method that Simson has so beautifully championed, as it penetrates a little deeper than this does.
rps3, I do use Fast Flight. I cant go back to any other string material now. :) My feeling, is that it is all about how you shape the nock grooves. They have to be rounded over, so that strain is not in line with the nutrient path (aka, the edge grain you split staves or firewood along).
-
"nutrient path"... NERD! ;)
That's a nice looking bow, Carson, even better in person. I'm sure that guy is going to love it.
-
Man, i still find the "simple" lookin bows the most beautiful. Another great piece of art Carson.
-
Good to know, thanks.
-
Awesome! That is outstanding. Jawge
-
Excellent work amigo!
-
Very nice indeed! Everything about it is top of the line..
-
Classically beautiful. I'm a big fan of your leaving the knocks without an overlay but am wondering about FF, myself. Interesting to hear you aren't having trouble.
Very nice Carson.

Carson
Congratulations, very good bow, simply spectacular

You nailed it on that one Carson, Nice work!
-
I really like your bow. You did a really nice job; like the snakeskin and how you worked around the one limb tip. Great looking bow; like the colors.
-
I must of missed this one first time around. I like everything about it and have to comment on how nice the belly looks with the way the rings feather so smoothly from the handle down the limbs. Very fine bow Carson.
-
Cool bow!
The finish makes everything Pop!!
