I finally finished a bow, arrow, and quiver set for my 6 year old nephew. It's black locust bendy handle with walnut overlays. It's 48" long, 1" wide, draws 14# at 20" and took about 1/2" of set. I put a leather flap on each side since I'm not sure which hand he will prefer to shoot with yet. My brother told me that he seems to be cross dominant. For being such a little bow with low draw numbers, it flings an arrow surprisingly well. I got it to fling an ~400gr arrow about 90 yards. It's going to be his Christmas/ birthday present, so I'll get some pictures of him with it if the weather is nice ebough to get outside with him. If not then the pictures will have to wait until we can get out and fling some arrows.
I was going to make the arrows, but 3rivers had youth arrows on sale cheap enough that I would've spent more to get the feathers and tips than to just buy finished arrows.
Thanks for looking,
Kyle

Betcha that'll be one happy young'un!
fyi . . . I've found 1/4" dowels w/ 70 gr points shoot well from bows of that weight.

That's awesome Kyle!

Awesome!! I've got a nephew that's about a year away from needing one. This is good inspiration! Nice work!

It's fun building these bows for kids. I've finished 2 for my grandkids and right now I have 3 shooting I'm about ready to finish sanding. I like the raccoon on there. Hope your nephew has some nice weather to shoot in, hate to have to wait till spring.

Nice to see. :) Jawge

He ought to love it. I have more trouble making kids bows then making a radical reflex deflex.

That looks great! Those 3Rivers arrows are hard to beat, especially if they're on sale. It looks like things may warm up a bit after tomorrow, so hopefully he can do some shooting soon.

I'm sure he's going to enjoy it.

Lucky kid, nice job on that one!

Very nice work.

Sweet! I'm working on 2 similar bows for my 6 year old daughter and 5 year old son. Nothing cooler IMO than a bow made for a kid- magical. I'm sure your nephew will love it.

Cool beans, he will like that

Very cool. That is one lucky kid to have an uncle like you.

Nice work. I bet he will be very happy with it.

Very nice Kyle! I'm sure he'll love it bunches!!!
I'm thinking that if you'd twist him up a fast flight string for that bow he might be able to push the arrow out to 95 or maybe 98 yards! :P
