Greetings and Happy Holidays!
Here's a bow I just finished up. It shoots really fast and feels awesome in the hand. It never would have turned out as well as it did if it weren't for all the thoughtful comments you all have given me over the past few months. Thank you all very much. Here it is...
64" ntn
45# at 27"
1 1/2" wide (handle narrowed some) out to mid-limb tapering down to a little less than 3/8 at the tips
cow horn overlays
paper backing with rat snake skin over that
leather cord handle wrap
toasted belly
tung oil finish (about 8 coats w/ steel wool in between each)

I've always had trouble with Elm until this one. I think I finally just found the right piece. The inspiration came from Mr. St. Louis. ;)

Marc makes some beauties and he was very helpful when I built my 1st survivor bow. They always have a perfect bend. Thanks again Marc

I have you to thank for that Bubby. I could almost hear your voice in my head while tillering- "get the mids moving, get the mids moving!" ;)

Very nice bow. The tiller looks like the best one you have posted so far.
-
Thanks Outlaw. I know you've been at this a while and I definitely value your point of view.

Nice!!! Glad to see those mids moving😉😃
Just remember there is a fine line between moving just right and too much😝

Looking good. You've been cranking those bows out like a boss!
If you want my constructive criticism, when you think your bow is finished and ready for skins/finishing etc., put it down for the night and come back to it. Start the sanding process all over again from 120 grit or so up to 220.
Your tillering is doing very well and I think the area you can improve is overall finish, particularly the tips. I find that I notice finishing on the handle and tips the most because I grab the, the most often. Rarely do I grab a bow midlimb .... because there's just no reason to while stringing/shooting.

Thanks Ben. For me, the constructive criticism is the most important reason for posting these bows. Don't get me wrong, positive feedback is great, especially from folks who know their stuff.
You're perceptive cause taking my time on finishing is new for me. I spent so long figuring out how to make a strong enough bow that doesn't explode, that by the time it was done, I felt finished. But seeing all the mind-bogglingly beautiful work on PA has made me realize that the finishing touches are a way to say, "Yes, I have failed more times than I can count but none of it was in vein because this one kicks @#$!"
I'm making note of your suggestions. Thanks again ;)

very nice, congrats,,

Great job! I like the feel of a leather cord wrap handle and have done a couple that way. I know what you mean about finding the right piece of elm. Most elm will make a bow, but there is a lot of disparity in the quality. When you get a piece that really wants to be a bow, it is something special. That one looks like a shooter to me.

mighty fine bow, well done!
-
Good work!you nailed that one, unbraced and drawn tell the tail.cool!
-
Very Nice! That bow looks fast full draw and brace.
-
Now thats a cool lookin bow!
-
Excellent! Elm is fine wood. It just likes to fight back a little.

Thanks again everyone. It's nice when one actually comes out the way you want it. :)
