Title: Mushroom ID
Post by: osage outlaw on December 03, 2016, 05:15:50 pm
I found a few of these growing out of the ends of some logs we cut up.  Does anyone know what kind they are?

Don't know what it is but I remember reading a long time ago that any mushroom that grew out of a tree was edible, I would still want to be sure before tasting though  :)

I would be careful-- Jack O Lanterns grow on oak stumps. :o
Very bad for you. :(
Maybe you mean a live tree Marc? :-\

I would study it some more, the Gills are growing straight. I will look it up in a BA's book I bought.

I'm not going to eat it.  I was just curious to see what kind it is.  I don't remember seeing any like that before.

It looks similar to an oyster shell (sometimes called hen and chicks) which is delicious and very safe BUT it doesn't look like the gills go all the way to the base of the mushroom if so that rules out oyster mushrooms.

they are not oysters and without a positive ID I would not eat them.
