i was just wondering if anyone knows why in the US, you guys count points per point rather than per side (how we do up north here) like my 3 by 2 would be your five. or my four point would be your "typical eight" anyone know whats the deal with that?
-
Just different regions I guess. Same reason we have ponds in the north but in Texas they have tanks. They are both the same thing.
-
I think that's an out west thing. I'm from N.S., but have lived here on the west coast for ten years or so. And back home we counted em by the point, I had never heard anyone say that 3×2 thing until moving out here. Cheers- Brendan

I have to admit that Boone and Crockett is not high
in my meat hunting persuit. ??? But if you are going to
keep track of antlers, why not count all the points instead of half. ???
All racks are not uniform. The A typical ones are beyond me. :-\
Any way Osage, please don't take offence. :)
Ponds and lakes are usually created by glacial ice
pushing the earth down.
Tanks are usually dug out in a holler or swale to catch
water for livestock. O:)

Zuma it probably has something to do with differant species whitetails all come off a main beam whilemulies and blacktail have branch antlers that grow more uniform. I personally have no use for b&c but don't they go for inches of horn and diameter of the base as a high criteria in their scoring

No offense taken Zuma. The ponds in my area are all dug out or a valley dammed for livestock water or for fishing.

Not sure why but we count all points here also, and we have ponds not tanks, tanks are a big metal thing around here. ;) :) same as a lot out west call rivers we call branches /streams or creeks, go figure. ;)

Probably for the same reason we have pop or soda and antlers or horns. It is just a territorial thing is my guess.
I know in Texas they dig tank and in Michigan we dig a pond.
-
Colloquialisms! ;)
-
Here in SE TX we say tanks for letting us fish yer pond, and we count every point
-
lol. and then we count drop tines but not brow tines. just odd..
-
If I told somebody around here I shot a 4 x 4 they would ask what brand it was and why I shot a truck.
-
hahah no it doesnt work like that. thats just a four point. if its non typical then it is a 3X4 but still referred to as a four point as far as the law is concerned
