One of the growth rings on the belly of my Osage bow looks like it is pealing up. About 4in down from center of bow, on bottom limb. Is this safe? Any way to fix it
-
They will want pictures.

Just got the bow from Primitive Pathways, going to email him soon. Made by Dan Spier. Post pictures soon
-
If the early ring is failing and delaminating it's not good. If it just somehow lifted the feathered edge I'd just saturate it with super glue and sand it smooth.
If you just bought the bow, let the builder handle it.
-
Here it is
-
I agree with Pat, let the builder take care of this one.
-
That looks a lot more like a lam or patch, not a growth ring. Is it truly mid limb?

Thats what I'm thinking too pat looks like a totaly different pc of wood

I know it's like were in the twilite zone lol

Hell, I see the pencil mark across it from the patch layout
-
I dont know what the deal was, if you got a discounted bow, or if he told ypu it was repaired or not, but that is not looking safe. Got a full pic of the belly area on it?
-
hard to tell from the pic,, can you send more shots,, but I really agree, that does not look good
-
Upon closer examination it looks to be a patch. Bad vision sucks, maybe glasses will help! ;D
Don't know if I should sent it back? No mention of patch when I bought it. Thank for all the help even with my half blindself providing info.
-
Can't get full limb pic to resize small engough. Email the seller waiting on reply.
-
Take a pic from farther away so we can see the perspective a bit better.
-
This better. Had to crop the last one and resize it to get it to work.
-
Thats a patch. And he even signed the patch. Wow
Bad form sending that quality out without your consent.
-
I see evidence of attempted heat treat to stiffen the area and bad glue up. I wouldnt give that bow away, much less sell it. Dude, have the seller make it right.
Is that a saw dust filler in the side also? Man, how much did you pay for it?
-
Try to send it back and get a different bow... or a refund.
-
Jesus, can't believe what things is someone selling today. Wondering when some "bowyer" will sell bow with broken limb that he "fixed" by gluing it.
-
To do a patch like that takes some skill and plenty of luck. I don't see these things as fixes, it is more of a last ditch attempt to make something work when really it is toast.
It is not even close to acceptable for a bowyer to send out a new bow like this.
-
These bows are sold through a dealer so there will probably be some "chain of blame" to work through.
-
Cant believe somebody would put a bow for sale with that kind of patch. I wouldn't even use it myself let alone sell it.
-
I wonder if the builder is a guy who posts on here?
-
Do patches like that even work? I remember reading on here that they will all give up eventually, never tried it.
-
Depends on who you talk to, David. Personally I like to have genuine trust in my hunting bows, or I simply don't shoot them well at all. I short draw and snap shoot horribly when I'm skeptical of a wood bow.
-
I've done a couple like that that worked fine. But----I have too many bows and they each don't get used that much. I wouldn't pass one on.
-
How long ago did you buy the bow?
-
Just got it yesterday evening. Ordered it from Primitive Pathways website. Going to return it. Though for my first truly primitive bow I would trust him but never again.
-
I can see some rot along the edge below the patch. Just not good all around, especially to sell undisclosed to the buyer.
-
Pat i'm surprised you didn't recognize the name(not to spill the dirt)!
-
yes,, on a positive note,, I am sure they will refund your money,,
next time,,, maybe consider buying from an individual that has a reputation for quality work,, there are lots of great wood bow makers now,, that would be glad to make you a quality bow that would be representative of what a wood bow should be,,
-
Prim. Path. youtube channel has good osage flatbow tutorial and bows this guy sells are good also. This bow was made from friend of PP founder, am I right?
-
All I know is he just sells them for someone else.
-
Dang, Drew, I feel bad for you. Where do you live? There is a more than fair chance one of us lives close to you and can help walk you through making something better than that!!!
-
Any update? What did Billy have to say about the flaw?
-
I know Dan very well and I am sure if you contact him he will make it right. He usually makes good bows from the ones I have seen, don't know what happened here but I feel sure he will make it right if given the chance and not just ran through the dirt.
