After all the Elm talk I thought I would post this bow I just finished. It is 64.5" NTN. 43#@28". Dogwood overlays with chinchilla string silencers. I put some walnut stain on it to make the grain pop. This bow is going to a friend's wife. This was a decent piece of Elm and I wish I knew what type. Small leaves, mostly sapwood with a little red in the heartwood. Small tree at about 5" diameter. Now for pics..

The brace pic looked a little funny Jon but that full draw is SPOT ON! I like the natural finish of the bow. It really highlights all the natural beauty of a piece of wood like that.
-
Not what I make....but that stick is sweet sir. Got your usual perfect bend, and especially like the natural finish.

Ajooter remember this is a natural stave not fiberglass out of a form ;) Full draw is what matters. Thanks for the replies gentlemen.

Very nice bow. I like how the grains pop out.

That's a good one, Jon, pretty grain, nice weight and excellent Tiller.

You've been pumping them out ... and we've likely seen just small % of what you've done lately. Must be liking the new premises!
Fine lookin' bow, Jon.

Thanks guys.

That's a sweet bend right there. Nicely done Sir.

Beautiful bow and a lovely bend. As frustrated as I've been by the elm I've tried, I have to say that I love the way elm grain looks. Nice work!
-
well done, sir. like Elm also, Hans

That's a beauty of a bow Jon. I like the simple lines and the way that stain really makes the figure of the wood stand out.
-
Very nice job, she should love that one. :)

That looks very nice. I like your profile lines.

Nice bow Jon, that wood is gorgeous
-
Very nice JonW! I really like the look of the grain in that Elm. Someone else may have asked already, ...but do you know what variety of Elm that is?
I think the Dogwood makes nice overlay material. It's hard as heck and takes on a pink color as it ages under finish.

Very nice bow. And like others have said elm has such awesome grain, and you sure made it pop out Job well done!
-
Eric I wish I knew for sure the exact species of Elm this bow is. I have used it several times and for the most part it makes a good bow. Sometimes it just won't make a heavy bow no matter how much heat tempering.
Thanks for the compliments guys.

Missed this one 1st time around, nice bow Jon and excellent looking bend. If it had small leaves check on Siberian Elm.
Not sure if you have that in your area Jon but could be what you have there. Grows like a weed here around buildings and
along roadsides mostly.

Greg I have always thought that is what it is. Just can't convince myself :o
