Hey everybody,It's been a long time since I posted a bow,but I 'm still building them pretty regularly. This is one I built from a very deflexed osage stave, that,up to a few years ago I would have passed on .But in the last 5 or 6 years I started using this wood and they still made good performers. This stave had an added handicap by having a lot thicker early wood than I like ,but I went with it anyway.I layed it out 1-1/4" wide at the fades, committed to a short non-bending handle section, then ran into a wind check that caused me to remove a 1/4" of width. The tiller process lost a little over 1/2" to set,but I ended up with 48# @ 26". It's 58" ttt,and 57"ntn.Overlay and handle inserts are east Texas black walnut.(The handle is'nt wrapped yet because I'm hoping to find a fresh killed beaver for it's tail). The purpose of this post is to encourage some of you, especially the newer bowyers to use this type of stave. It may not set any speed records, but I know it's gonna put a heavy arrow through a pair of lungs. Here's a few pictures. God Bless

I like the way you did the tips. You get 1/2" more reflex. Nice bow!

Very nice, Pete.

It may have been a less than perfect osage stave but you wouldn't know it from the finished product, very clean and nice bow Pete.

That is a sweet little bow. Perfect bend, and it looks very efficient, AND it has some nice wiggle. Top Notch.

I love those snakey Osage bows. And that's a nice one! Cheers- Brendan

You mentioned having to narrow the blank an extra 1/4 inch AFTER you'd cut it out to work around a wind check problem. That is about the point where I will often give-up on a stave or make it into a kids bow! I really like the bend on this short little bow. Very impressed that you managed to keep a NON-bending handle on it and still made a respectable weight bow. Look out turkeys...
