Title: Osage D bow tiller check

My brother gave me this Osage stave. The stave was pretty thin which is why it bends so much in the handle. The growth rings were super thin and beyond my ability to chase so I backed it with raw hide from a blactail off my friends ranch. This is my 5th bow and my first time using Osage. I really didn't expect it to stay together.

I have been trying to thin the tips out to get them to work a bit more. Does this tiller look ok? If not where should I take some wood off?

I don't make D bows really but to me that is one and the tiller looks pretty darn good too.How does it shoot?What poundage did you get out of it yet?Usually it does'nt take much osage to get a 50# bow.Especially a D bow.

Not too Bad.  If it were mine, I would get the outer 1/2 of the limbs working a bit more.

Sounds stupid but I'm in a tight spot do no buying nothing.  To check the tiller on my D bow I used the bottom of a large prescription bottle and adjusted the picture on my phone until the mid aligned if the limbs didn't hug it I needed to adjust the part that didn't

I will work on getting the upper limb tip to flex a little more. The bow is 62" nock to nock. It is 1.5" wide at the handle,  1 1/4" at mid limb and 3/4" at the tips. I think it is about 50 pounds at 26" draw, but I don't have a bathroom scale because my friend took it to tiller his bow a year ago.

I think it should shoot good. I'm pretty rusty so I probably not the best person to test it. Here is a 10 yard group.

Looks good to me...maybe just a scrape or two in the outer limbs?  Your dimensions sound healthy for that type of bow.  Hope it brings you luck.
