Title: peekaboo!
Post by: Pat B on September 22, 2016, 12:50:47 pm
I was sitting in my chair this morning working on my laptop when I looked up there was a bear looking through the screen in the back door window. This was about 20' from where I was sitting. I yelled at him and both dogs and myself ran out that door and both dogs chased him off. Pretty cool! It's funny, he hasn't eaten any more corn from the corn feeder, gotten into the compost pile or messed with the trash. I wonder what he wanted looking through the door window?
Maggie Mae, our new pup took it in stride and hung with the big dog to protect the home front.

It is funny becasue same dilemma in our parts, Bear are no longer scared of Humans, 30-50 years ago the Bears would rarely come into human inhabited places.  Now they are everywhere.  I saw a video recently where a Black Bear opened the doors of a Ford F-150 extended cab.
Problem is people keep feeding them.

So when a bear becomes a nuisance bear and has to be shot by the authorities, how about handing out expensive violation tickets to all the folks that fed them and caused this unnecessary "take" of a natural resource?

Good for Maggie and company for educating this Peeping Tom Bear!  Hopefully, he learned the caloric expense and discomfort of getting run off outweighs whatever benefit your yard offers.  These critters are always weighing the cost/benefit ratios of the actions and behaviors.  No sense repeating what didn't work last time!

I enjoy the interactions with wildlife we have. Never really had a problem with them. I thought it was funny that he(she) didn't eat the corn in the feeder or get into the compost. He just wanted to visit I guess.

I'm the same way, Pat. I like seeing critters outside the house. One thing I wont tolerate are the five stripers digging under my steps making them give way. Other than that, critters are safe.

Don't go looking for "sexy bears"... You might find unexpected results :)

Maybe you should teach that bear a lesson with a blunt tipped arrow to the rump.

Were you listening to music at the time, maybe the bear just wanted to waltz?
