I retired at mid day today!!! I had a nice send off meal at a local pub (8 of us including Mrs Cat), a bottle of Prosecco, a voucher for a meal at a fancy restaurant for Mrs Cat and me and a wad of cash to spend on a treat.
I'd said to the boss, I didn't want a lot of fuss and he judged it just right.
He said a few words and I felt my 18 years there were really appreciated, although he did mention how they tried to keep me away from delicate customers who didn't always appreciate my blunt honesty :o
40 years in electronics is a long time, not computers of mobile phones when I started and ICs were a rarity!
Now if only I had an interesting hobby to fill the time ;D ::) ;)
Del
(My normal retirement date would have been over the Christmas break, I felt it was good to go at this time of year while there is still some fruit on the trees and a bit of sunshine)

Congratulations Del! If you're like me you'll love it. It took me about 20 minutes to get used to retirement.

Yeah, I miss the old stuff, I used to enjoy seeing what I could get out of a handful of transistors Rs and Cs.
Years ago I made a weird headphone amplifier to work on a strange submarine intercom system which operated at a fairly low voltage yet needed a high output swing. A few years later after I'd left that company I had a new guy contact me asking how the heck it worked as he had some back for repair!!!

A year from this coming Saturday for me is my plan, can't wait, at least I think I can't wait. I have lots of stuff to do that I really enjoy, just wonder if I enjoy them so much because I have to fit them in and when it gets to where I can do them all the time if I will enjoy them as much, :-\ hope so. :)

Congratulations.
That has to feel good.

Congrats Del, now that you are a 'gentleman of leisure', you'll find out pretty quickly that you're busier that you were when you were gainfully employed. I know that's the way it seems to turn out.

That happened to me too, but then I realized I was drinking coffee until 9:00, taking two hours for lunch, taking an afternoon nap and then knocking off early.

Get right to the retirement "work". Don't hesitate or delay.
If ya thought that your working years went fast, retirement years are 10x more so!
Congrats, Mr Del!

Good luck on your new journey. I had to retire because of disability. Hope you can fill your days with great times.
