Just cut down a hackberry tree the other day, not the straightest staves in the world but I really wanna work with somewood that's actually dry. I'll post pics if anyone is interested. Let me know what you got
-
Where you from I've got some black locust that's 3 or 4 years old in the barn if your not far & want to stop in I'll give you a couple I'm in PA.
-
That would be amazing but I'm down in Florida

Tell ya what Justin if you want to pay the shipping I'll send ya a stave of osage.A good one too.Ring chased and sealed with shellac.Might have a slight propeller but no big issues at all.Believe they are 3 years old too.In a pvc tube. Now when you finally get some winged elm you can send me the tube back with a winged elm stave in it.

Well Justin, when you can get to my house the Winged Elm is here to ship back.
-
Justin Id take Eddie up on his very generious offer. Eddies a really good guy ive never meet him but sure would like to and it would be great to get some hands on help, its more valuable than the staves.

That winged elm sure sounds nice eddie.
I had the pleasure of meeting him a couple weeks ago probably wouldn't be able to make bows right now without him cause I traded a stave for a draw knife from himy. And those feathers are awesome eddie!
-
Say that sounds good fellas.Mullet....Is it a nice piece if elm?I'm going to want to stress it a bit????....lol.I imagine it is.
Justin...I want a successful bow out of this osage stave here.....If mullet can help you along the way maybe that would be nice. Then you can go out in that insanely humid weather and have no worries.
-
Yes sir it is nice. I think it was cut in 2008.
-
I'm down to make this happen. I'llet save it for a bit and get my skills up and make a nice recurve snake skinned bow out of it
-
Justin....That'll work fine.
Mullet...Hope you can get more of the elm.I can of the osage here anyway.

Bud, You need to slow down and not worry about the "skinned" final product until you get one shooting. Then you will slow down on trashing staves. It's not the wood you use but the patience.
