I can get one for free if I want it. Just don't know that much about them. Worth messing with even if it needs work?
-
If its free, get it. You can always get rid of it or the parts you don't use.
-
Which attachments come with it and are those components ones you'd use? Even. if it's free, it takes up space.
Course, if it's free and space not an issue . . . . . ????
-
Mike it has band saw, table saw, and lathe. Space is no issue I just wondered about parts availability if it needs repairs. After a little net surfing I think I will bring it home.
-
I see them on on our local craigslist pretty often. If you could get it for free I'd jump all over that deal. They go for $250-$1000 here depending on condition and attachments.
If you get it will you post some pictures and give us a bowyers opinion of it?
-
I had access to a very old one several years back. I found that they were very good to work with to get parts and reference material. Their customer service was really great, the woman that I spoke with was really personable and even kinda charming!
You are looking at a couple thousand bucks to get that set-up, so if it is free, TAKE IT!
-
Ok guys you have convinced me. Clint I will have to get Mike to come over and give you a bowyers opinion. I'm still learning. ;)

I was at an estate sale a couple of years ago, a complete Shop Smith was up for auction. It had everything you could put on one and cost over 11K initially, it sold at auction for 1K.
-
I would trust both of your opinions on it Jon.
-
GET IT! I've always wanted a shopsmith but never got one becouse of the cost
-
This just keeps eating on me, bugging me, and intruding on my every thought. I am going to start haunting Craigslist with hopes of my free Shopsmith now.
-
FREE should have been the first Clue. ???
-
Jon, I've always wanted one myself not really knowing their worth. I was told by a good friend that they are very versatile and a good investment if they can be found used at the right price. I'd be jumping all over that one.
-
I would love one. Under $400 is a steal.
-
I have had mine for 35 plus yrs still going strong !
bandsaw is a bit weak for bow work butI do a lot of cabinet work with my Shopsmith.
