Finally finished this one. Its been a Long Train Runnin', as the Doobs always say 8) I see things now I will do different next go-round. This was first shot at a 3 piece. It feels good knowing the riser is bullet proof and I can always whip out some new limbs no matter what happens to the current set.
The I-beam riser is purple heart sandwiched between Goncola Alves, held together with Uni-Bond 800.
The inserts, pins and screws all came from Binghams for just a few bucks and are held in with MT-13.
The limbs are osage billets I got from Clint, their sisters.....ohhh yahhh.
The skins are broad-banded water snakes, also from my half pint buddy, you just cant beat Clint when it comes to good buddies.
The tip overlays are purple heart as well.
The antler screw caps came from my buddy Adam in Canada, eh'.
As you can see the real beauty in this bow comes from the ingredients that were sent to me by all my friends.
69" ttt
13" riser
3" limb beds (single pin and screw)
50# @ 28.5"

-

-
Very nice, Pearlie. Beautifull combination of wood and snake skins. i've got the Template from James Parker's Riser for his take-Downs but not enough time to get one started.
-
One beautiful 3 piece takedown Pearl. I'm usally not real into takedowns but this one is sweet. I've been thinking about those Osage billets you gave and splicing them together. Might have to rethink it. I'll probably be sending you a few PM's asking some questions about this one.

Sweet looking bow Chris. Congrats on pulling it off. It would be cool to have several sets of limbs for it

Well done, son. Thank you for finishing that and showing it off.

Very nice bow Chris. Those screw caps looks like a couple mushrooms growing out the back :)

Very nice, Drums. Bring it to Elm Hall, or need I even say it... ;)
-
That is top shelf Pearly! Well done....well done indeed! Josh
-
Pretty slick! I've seen it and shot it, it's nice
-
Thank you very much everyone! It was a fun, but slow build. I didn't exactly tear into it. I had to think through a lot of it as it was all new to me. And I used 95% hand tools for that riser, that wood is HARD. I had a slight tick in the upper locating pin, but it has went away after several hundred shots. Just needed settled I guess.
-
Very nice, Drums. Bring it to Elm Hall, or need I even say it... ;)
It will be there for sure Matt. I made up some boo arrows for it and shot them last night, they are like missiles out of this bow. I may have found me a hunting rig for this season.
-
Wow what a great looking bow. I love those snakeskins and the fades on your riser. One of the best looking bows I have seen! Great job.
-
You can shoot that at Marshall next year right?
-
Wow what a nice job. An wonderful parts list from a great community! Are those antler caps white tail? Cheers- brendan
They are whitetail with hoof prints in them. I cant tell if they are cast or real. I didn't really look close either. I just glued my bolts in with MT-13 and used them!
-
You can shoot that at Marshall next year right?
Yes sir. Its a self bow. Id argue with anybody about that.
-
Really nice job, PD. I haven't been on here a while (busy season) and the first thing I see is this. Fine piece of work!! ;)
-
That is a stunningly beautiful bow, PD. Use it in good health. Jawge
-
A bow to be very proud of Chris.I think excellent.Have fun shooting er.Fun knowing where all the parts come from.SPECIAL.Someday I'll try one like that too.
-
Belonging to a historical recreation group I've developed a bit of a bias against three piece takedowns as we're supposed to be trying to be as period as is reasonable for the average person but 90% shoot Samick Sage takedowns, lol. That being said this one is the exception, it is absolutely stunning!
-
All your efforts paid off handsomely, Mr Chris. Ya should be proud of that one!
-
Wow Chris . That just may be the nicest bow I have ever seen posted on this site . You sure have a talent my friend.
-
I just knew you were gonna do something special with that bow Chris, you certainly did not disappoint. Well done buddy
-
Thanks again to all. Hopefully a good batch of you get to fire a few bullets from it over the next few years. I never say no!
-
Oh man that is nice. I bet it will only get better looking with time as that osage darkens.
That is an inspiring build right there.
-
Just plain old beautiful. You did yourself proud for a first take down.
-
That's a beautiful bow Chris. Definitely a labour of love right there.
Maybe we'll see yew limbs in there next?
-
Really stunning work my friend. It must have been a lot of work bringing all in line and balance out. And yes the ingredients are beautiful - every piece by its one.
Congrats for a piece we don't see all day!
-
Snakes alive- that is an incredibly crafted work of art man! She surely is a joy to behold! :D
-

You know that thought crossed my mind when I was laying the riser out. Obviously you have to watch how wide your riser is if you plan to add various sets of limbs down the road. Yew limbs would take some of the weighty feeling away Im sure. Carson and I made a swap and he sent me some nice. old billets. Might be a good application for them.
-
Man Pearly, who gave you that sweet looking bow? Must have been a good friend! >:D
No, you done an awesome job buddy! My only question is, where is mine?
Patrick
-
Somehow I missed seeing this when it first came out! What a beauty!
OneBow
-
Wow.
-
Have not been on here much, but I have to say that bow is nice! Great job Pearlie!
-
Turned out beautifully, Chris.
-
out standing work no worries with that bow in hand killer!!!
-
Wow Chris, you keep pushing the limits, beautiful!
Because it's a take down, it would be a crime not to plan a back county hunt,,,,,,let me know when you ready to dust off the backpack and start training,,, ;D ;D ;D
Well done Brother,
Ed
-
Man I thought I posted on this bow. Pearly that's alright . I like it . what was the weight I am sure you said but I was to busy looking at pics to read. I'll go back and check. Arvin
-
WOW! That is one very nice take down bow. I'm have never owned a takedown bow before. Was never a big fan of them till I seen this one! I would own one like that! VERY WELL DONE INDEED!
-
That one's in the best top 10 ever posted on this site hands down. I've been slowly rasping away at my riser block for over a year. I'll have me one of those in about a decade at the rate I'm going.
Awesome job. I'd take that over the devil's golden fiddle any day of the week.
-
Thanks again for the words fella's. I worked my butt off on this one and appreciate your comments!
-
Excuse me for being uninformed, but is the bow you made harder to make than the self bow? I really like concept of making take down with self limbs as I have lots of various types of wood (short in length) that could be used as limbs and some other wood I could use for the riser, although not the pretty one like you made.
I though of maybe making black locust limbs.
How do you tiller this thing and if you mess up, does only limb/s broke or the riser also? I thought I could make one good riser and just try to tiller it with various limbs until I succeed.
