Anyone know this maple? Can't figure it out and it's driving me nuts. Thanks- Brendan

Douglas Maple. I just cut one a couple of days ago. 3" dia and 40 years old. First real straight one I've had. Makes a good bow. Very light.

Where do you live Pender?
-
Pat B I live on Pender island southern gulf islands B.C.
Thanks DC that's what I thought but it didn't quite look right. Cheers- Brendan

DC every pic of Douglas maple leaves I see they are on red shoots. This has green ones. Slightly different variety? - Brendan

I think it has to be in the sun to turn red. That's just a guess though. Red Osier Dogwood is quite often not red up here too.

Thanks Don that makes sense. -Brendan

Do you have Vine Maple on Pender?
-
Not that I have seen. It's mostly just big leaf and Douglas. There are a lot of trees, shrubs and animals that we don't have but the surrounding islands do. Pines, vine maple, and cascara. Don't have squirrels and we got rats and raccoons within the last 10-15 years. Pesky critters!
