Title: How to calculate string lengths for different lengths bows ?

I would like to know if there is a formula or rule of thumb way to determain the string lengths for different bow lengths and styles ?

I think it is nock to nock length less 3" for long bows and less 4" for recurve or just tie a bowyers knot for the bottom limb so it hardly matters.
